Gabigol linked again but Moyes may have different ideas

Brazilian striker Gabigol is reported as remaining on the West Ham target list this January

Manuel Pellegrini and Mario Husillos had scouted the Inter Milan striker on loan at Flamengo and according to http://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-strong-player-can-offer-e20m-plus-bonuses-moyes-gives-approval-transfer/ a move could still be on.

Flamengo want to keep the player and, although there is no confirmation from West Ham one way or the other, it would be a surprise if Moyes  prefers to do his shopping in the Championship.

FCInterNews reported that the reason behind Barbosa’s hesitation towards joining the South American side, is due to the link with the Hammers and his desire for Premier League football..

The report says playing for a PL  side is a ‘tease’ for Gabigol in an ‘important way’.

The Hammers are reported as being ready to offer €20m plus bonuses but at this stage we shall need to wait and see with the window now set to become active.

ClaretandHugh: We don’t believe this deal will go ahead now although Moyes – like any other manager is always ready to prove us media types wrong. As he made clear when arriving the big money signings are the icing on the cake but agreed that he likes Championship players who are young, hungry and have something to prove. He adopted that policy at Everton under a chairman who had the same sort of resources as Gold and Sullivan and I am fully expecting more of the same.

  1. I doubt their motivation is to prove you media types wrong but, if in the process, they do, fair enough.
The policy seems to work well enough for other clubs.
Its generally overseas coaches, who know nothing about our leagues, that impose imported players, frequently unfit fit for purpose.
My way is to buy the best local talent that the owners’ resources can afford, even though the prices are usually inflated.
Most other clubs of OUR standing, have at least one such player who stands out from the rest.
    Obviously no guarantees, either way………………
Were we lucky yesterday’s opposition was Bournemouth, or what!

  2. Jordan Hugil

  3. Talking about big signings…

In June 2018 Pellegrini was in Chile and gave an interview to the local press about his new West Ham job. He said:
“The challenge with West Ham is spectacular. Now I will get the owners to create a competitive team, because they are very wealthy even though they are very tightfisted. We want to bring a big name player so that other players will follow him.”

So Pellegrini seemed to think that there was plenty of money available but there may have been a certain reluctance to spend it. I wonder if he ever got the players he wanted.
In many of his previous clubs there was often a lot of cash to spend.

So, will Moyes be given a budget he is happy with? And will he get the players he wants?

  4. It seems to have been very quiet on that front Pacific. I haven’t seen any references to it. You would think after last time Moyes would have been careful to get some assurances about transfers. I got the impression he was kept on a very small budget two years ago & that Hugill was the most they would give him as a backup, rather than his choice. But the other view is that he didn’t want to spend. I have no idea which view is correct, but haven’t seen any reliable interviews or extracts from autobiographies etc to confirm it either way.

Think your judgement on Pellegrini is about right.

  5. I would love to see Hugill play up front with Haller just for one game and score a hatrick.

  6. IMO Hugill was a Sully signing as an insurance policy to have a striker of championship quality had we dropped down because obviously Arnie and Chich would be on their toes very sharply had we plunged
