West Ham must submit their squad list to the Premier League on Monday. It must contain no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the “Home Grown Player” (HGP) criteria. The rest of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be Home Grown.
An HGP means a player who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21). Changes to the squad list of 25 may be made during the period of a transfer window. Under-21 players are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad.
Ryan Fredericks, Aaron Cresswell, Mark Noble, Jack Wilshere, Michail Antonio and Andy Caroll count as the first six homegrown players but the Hammers need to find two more over 21. Last season Moses Makasi and Josh Cullen filled those roles but with Cullen going out on loan West Ham are now one homegrown player short.
That could mean James Collins is about to be given a squad place on a short-term contract until January.
How long have we known this? it is a joke, no wonder our England team is never expected to win anything major & we get excited winning or drawing a few games.
We need James Collins regardless . But surely west ham were aware of these regulations before they introduced nine new players to the squad ! .
Absolutely ridiculous..we should of never let him go ..the mistakes this club continue to make is laughable….4 games gone and it’s a total mess already..it really beggars belief……
I’d give him the full season. Fantastic pro imo.
Why is Andy Carroll being given a squad number, what a damn waste, rather give it to one of the development squad!!
We need Andy Carroll as well . Who else is going to meet those crosses and hold the ball up in midfield .
