Hammer Paqueta unlikely to leave

By Sean Whetstone

If Newcastle United need to sell Allan Saint-Maximin in order to fund a move for Harvey Barnes there is no way they can afford to bid Lucas Paqueta.

Talksport claims that Newcastle hope to sell Saint-Maximin to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia so they have the funds to sign Leicester winger Barnes.

Eddie Howe is said to want to sign Barnes for around £35m and is keen to beat West Ham to the Leicester City winger’s signature.

Howe is also reported to be keen to sign Hammer Lucas Paqueta but the Hammers would want a minimum of £70m to consider cashing in and could want as much as £80m.

If Newcastle are struggling with the cash required to sign Barnes it makes no sense to consider they could fund a move for Paqueta too this summer.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, sporting director Dan Ashworth and co-owner Amanda Staveley have all pointed to the FFP regulations when discussing Newcastle’s ability to spend on transfers in the short-term.
