West Ham earned close to one million pounds in gate receipts when they played in Manchester last night.
EFL regulations say that clubs must share the full gate receipts 45% each regardless of home or away status with 10% going to the F.A.
The official attendance at Old Trafford last night was an impressive 72,568 and if you average £30 per ticket that would bring in around £2,177,040 in gate receipts.
45% of that total converts to £979,668.
This works both ways and when West Ham host Manchester City they will need to give up 45% of their London Stadium ticket money.
However with three home games in six days around that period, a 60,000 sell-out appears unlikely midweek. Maybe 30,000 at £30 a ticket average will generate £900,000 of gate receipts of which each club would keep just over £400,000 each,
The winners of EFL Cup every year pocket around £100,000 in prize money while the runners-up pocket just £50,000 which is insignificant compared to the gate receipts. While there is basically zero prize money up until the EFL Cup semifinal stages. The losing teams in the semifinals get £25,000 each.
It’s not really a bonus, simply our share of the gate receipts!
