Hammers beaten in Europe – the fans react

|
West Ham were at their poorest or Domsele were a far better team than anyone expected?
Whichever view you take last night’s result was deeply disappointing and there’s one heck of a lot of tuning to go on before next week’s second leg at the London Stadium.
Here. ClaretandHugh readers give their thoughts on last night’s shock result from Slovenia.
Antonio - lIkely to start

Antonio – lIkely to start

O I don’t believe we can play as badly 2 weeks running but unless something comes together significantly it could be a struggle. The penalty aside I can’t remember us creating an attempt on goal.

O Defence is frightening

O It’s hard to know if Domzele were actually playing well or not. Hopefully they had a great night by their standards

O Absolutely shocking!!! BT Sport talked about lack of match fitness and players tiring all through the second half

O I love Antonio going forward but it is as if he has to play RB just to shoehorn him into the team. He wants to play up the field so gets exposed at the back! Need a new RB experiment that works!

O Talk about make it hard for ourselves!!! 😡

O On the plus side we’ve been found out now and not on 13th August. That gives us an extra two weeks in the transfer window to buy a defence

Really poor. Cant say we’re taking the competition seriously when we turn up this unfit and under-prepared. We don’t deserve to go through based on this showing. Much much more needed next week already

O Shocking, Antoniowe know is not a rb but slav deffo will make him our rb, Bryan not a lbValencia not a winger, we are a complete shambles ,we are supposed to be a properly organised Premier League club,

Lets get back to common sense.
Playing a winger who is not great at defending at right back, and playing a right back at left back is very risky unless they get support from 3 center backs.
Start with the right formation and we win the return. Otherwise they will park the bus and hit us on the break, and we are out.

If we can get Ayew in for Valencia by next thursday, I’m sure that would also help a lot. He would make much better support for Carroll.

No one we sign before next Thursday will be able to play in it anyway once we handed in our squad for this round.

It was so embarrassing. It’s hard to know where to start. Byram seemed to think he was a central midfielder, Antonio can’t defend, to the point where I am starting to question Bilic’s judgement (sacrilege I know). He’s also enormously clumsy with the ball (gave the ball away leading to their first goal). Nordveidt looked slow and ponderous. Carroll’s first touch is laughable. Obiang had a nightmare. Only Feghoili and Valencia showed flashes of something approaching flair. The stats showed we had three shots on target. I can only remember the penalty. There was also something lacking in commitment. Carroll and Antonio were playing as if it was a Sunday morning kick around. Sort it out Bilic!

Does anyone know if Slav’s made any comment re this performance?

  • Ray says:

I think the only comment I agree with amongst that tirade of grumbling was that Antonio is no RB.The rest, well it was all a bit like white noise from yet another moaner whos points in the main were totally invalid.

Similar happened last year. We more than recovered.
