Hammers central defender falls out of favour

|

West Ham’s hopes of finding a permanent club for Winston Reid appear to have taken a knock.

After returning from the States where he had been on loan at Kansas, Reidy signed for Brentford on the same basis.

But the central defender has fallen out of favour after playing just 10 games in the Bees promotion chase.

He  hasn’t appeared now since March 20 and it has been confirmed that he is not injured following his last match in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.

The 32 year old Kiwi still has two years left on his Hammers deal with his wages believed to be in the order of £75k a week the club were presumably hoping that a decent season at the Bees could see clubs come in for him at the end of the season.

Reid received glowing reports from the Bees fans after his first appearances and it now remains for him to fight his way back again after difficult years since a bad injury at Swansea back in 2018.

They’ve not won a game since they’ve dropped him either so might find himself back in soon. Although it wouldn’t bother me if he was part of our squad next season. He’s largely proved his fitness in the loan spells he’s had.
