West Ham are closing in on the signing of highly-rated teenager Luke Thomas.
He could become the first signing of Manuel Pellegrini’s reign although he has been regularly scouted for several months by the club.
According to some sources a £1.2m offer has been lodged by the Hammers and the move could be confirmed in the coming days.
The 19-year-old was named Derby’s young player of the year for 2017/18 having joined the Rams in January 2016 from Cheltenham Town, who are expected to receive 15% of any transfer fee. The forward has made 17 Premier League 2 appearances for the Rams scoring six goals and providing one assist.
He made his first team debut last October as a sub in the 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.
Phil Foden and Luke Thomas are both teenage attacking midfielders, who are linked with West Ham. Neither has made more than a handful of senior games.
Are they really both better than Nathan Holland?
…. or Marcus Browne?
Maybe Nathan Holland and Marcus Browne are planning to be promoted to senior, and Luke Thomas is to replace them in the academy.
Will Pell e give Marcus a run out
I would say it depends on how pre-season goes. He did bring Kelechi Iheanacho though.
Kelechi Iheanacho did very well when he was Citeh under Pelegrini, stalled under Guardiola (remember we were interested but Slav didn’t rate him) and subsequently hasn’t been unable to dislodge Vardy at Leicester, perhaps he could resurrect his career with us?
Very impressed, that’s some network Pellegrinis got…. Derby players on his radar? amazing!
Certainly an underwhelming choice but maybe he is more for the academy than for the first team, Westley must have a transfer list also.
