West Ham have confirmed they have put in a bid for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvazez but that is more than the £25 million reported in the mainstream media.

Our key source told us exclusively a few minutes ago: “The deal is not done with Ajax as has been reported but we are now hopeful of getting there.

“If that doesn’t turn out to be the case we believe we have a very good back- up identified who would join us should Alvarez not.”

So finally then  there is some good news with the 25 year old keen to join the Premier League although reports that he is set for a Hammers medical are wide of the mark at the moment.

Talks remain ongoing and the fee is expected to be £30 million – a compromise on the £35m wanted by the Dutch club and nrgotiated by David Sullivan.

Alvarez is currently on holiday in his native Mexico but is ready to fly to London to complete a medical once a fee is agreed.

Alvarez, who has been the subject of interest from Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund  is poised to become the club’s first signing of the summer.
