Hammers confirm Wilshere departure

|

West Ham have released a 57-word statement on WHUFC.com confirming the departure of Hammer Jack Wilshere

The short statement says: ‘West Ham United can confirm that the Club has agreed with Jack Wilshere to a mutual termination of the midfielder’s contract.

The 28-year-old departs having played 19 times and scored once since joining the Hammers in the summer of 2018.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to wish Jack all the best for his future career’

Wilshere released his own slightly bitter statement on social media saying

“I can confirm that I have today agreed the termination of my contract with West Ham United.”When I joined the club in the summer of 2018 I joined with great hopes and expectations and was excited to join the club I’d supported as a young boy.

“Unfortunately, despite all of my best efforts and intentions, it has not worked out as I’d expected. I have been fully fit for a large period of time at the club, including over the course of the last eight months – training hard every day – but unfortunately have not been given the opportunity to play.

“Although I am of course frustrated that I was not able to fully showcase what I am capable of at West Ham I remain convinced that I can still contribute at the very top of the game.

“I am still incredibly hungry, ambitious and desperate to play football and achieve success. I’m still only 28 and feel fit, strong and ready to play.

“I’m now looking forward to the future and hope to be able to make an announcement about the next stage of my career in due course.”
Claret and Hugh say:
A slightly bitter and ungrateful statement from so-called boyhood fan of West Ham,  the club initially wanted the player on 12-month contract on £100,000 per week over fears of past injuries but the player insisted on a three-year deal and the board Manuel Pellegrini as he was the player he wanted.  He joined as a free transfer in July 2018 with a big signing on fee and has earned approx £11.7m in his 117 weeks at the club, with 16 Premier League appearances that is £731.250 per appearance.
His pay off of around £3.23m for his remaining 38 weeks of his contract is 85% of his remaining wages.  After such investment, he seems a bit rich that he complains about the manager not playing him in his parting shot to West Ham.

If nothing else happens this will be the best bit of news in the transfer window,

Last eight months. That’s Covid shutdown and after then. When PL resumed to a conclusion, we needed a team to dig-in and save us from relegation. We could not afford to continually test and nurse an alledgedly amazing talent back into the swing of playing. He would have also needed the team to play to his style to show him off at his best. Relegation was the most likely outcome – so – glad you didn’t get the chance, Jack. But you were very well remunerated in your ‘rejection’.
All any of us ever want is a fair crack of the whip. I think you had more than your fair share. All the best for your future.

What a backhanded leaving statement from Wilshere. He was handed a massive signing on fee and an enormous contract and yet he moans to the end. Not just not fit enough, he wasn’t good enough when fit.

Predicted this outcome the day he signed.

Good riddance, Waste of talent maybe – but overrated anyway. Anyone who plays a game for England thinks they’re world beaters. Clearly untrue with the national teams abysmal record since ’66. Jog on Jack, no respect for anyone thinking they’re better than they are. I would’ve hated to be a player, on much less than him, but playing more games. Owners were royally screwed with this character and that’s another red mark against Pellegrini and co. He’ll be in the MLS no doubt, earning a pretty packet – then get injured after a month…glad to see the back of him.
