Wilshere leaves as Irons cancel contract

|

Jack Wilshere has left West Ham United.

The midfielder who received around £5 million a year plus agents fees to play a handful of games for the club has become part of Hammers  history after a deal was stitched together for him to leave.

The move to the London Stadium was one of the most ill judged in even our often dreary history  but the club has finally got rid of the injury ravaged former England star.

Although no definite details are available we understand that he received around 85 per cent of what was remaining on his contract which would be about £3.75 million.

He was brought in on a three year deal during Manuel Pellegrini’s spell in charge under David Sullivan, but has been regularly injured or ill and unable to make any real contribution to the club at all.

Under the terms of the cancelled contract deal he is now out of contract and free to join another club.

Hopefully this will give the Board’s head a shake. Utter madness to give him that contract, especially after we’d just managed to get rid of Carroll.

Good luck, Jack, with whatever career you now decide to follow. Bit of a shame you never were able to show Irons supporters any of the stuff that made you such a great player for Arsenal and England. Pity that you hadn’t spotted that you couldn’t play before you took the money and position in the squad, keeping out the possibility of us signing or playing someone with a future.
Now it’s all history and maybe West Ham can get on with the job in-hand and look to the future without the shackles of waiting for the recovery and not being able to move forward.

His next move is as likely to be as painter and decorator as it is to be pro footballer somewhere else.

blame Sullivan for pandering to pellegrini. It was a massive punt, a huge gamble. We all wanted it to pay off mind but it wasn’t to be.

Of all our signings he is the most disappointing, he has so much talent and has wasted it, costing us a fortune in the process… Genuinely hope we don’t make the same mistakes again like him, Ljundberg, Dyer, Mido the list goes on…

  • Grant says:

All the best to Wilshere and Cullen though. Never really given an opportunity to be fair.

All the best to Jack Wilshire.

All the best Jack. It was his boyhood dream to play for us and it didn’t work out. Hopefully, you can get a few years in the MLS.
I don’t feel bitter about Jack being with us, as there are people higher up who have the responsibility for making those decisions.
Right, his wages are no longer an issue along with Zabba, Sanchez, Hugill etc
Who of note are we gonna bring in before transfer deadline time???
Not someone else’s youngster, when we could give invaluable experience to one of our own (Alese)…surely?

  • Taffyhammer says:

By the way — West Ham United have been ‘my team’ since 1964. I would have played any number of games for my team for nothing.
    £5million/year is/was a total disgrace.
Not made any better for being reminded of Freddie Ljundburg or Kieron Dyer !!! Thanks for that Fan No. 32 !! Just don’t remind me about Avram Grant, though. I’m feeling the need for pills.

So we desperately need players ,but we have let 3 go ….cracking business..absolute clowns

  • Jersey Hammer says:

Good news and good riddance. Was a shocking contract considering anyone with a working brain cell could see he would always be injured. Agree with Taffy above 🙂 It was a pity he took the money and laughed all the way to the bank. Same character and schooling as carroll. Overated player and glad he’s gone. Also good for the changing room, as it can’t have been good for morale having an over paid sick note on more money than some of the harder working lads…plus his comments outside the club…as for the comment above that he was never given a chance – obviously from someone who doesn’t keep up with the latest WHU news! He wasn’t given a chance because he was always injured…
