Hammers crash again – it HAS to be goodbye Pellegrini

|

Irons 1 Arsenal 3

There really is nothing left to say but sack him!

This  was the worst Arsenal team to appear at our gaff for many years but once they saw a team that could be taken by a bit of quick thinking and movement it was over.

It’s beginning to reach that stage – if it hasn’t already – where you really don’t want to watch because this is a team with nothing to offer under a manager who – let’s be honest – who is now clueless to know what to do about it.

What makes it so hard to take is that we took the lead against a team who for 45 minutes were worse than us before folding completely to three goals inside 10 minutes and then sleepwalking our way to the end of a game we should have won with ease.

With fans emptying the stadium by the minute West Ham’s board surely know this has to be the end of Pellegrini – he really does have to go. There is simply no other answer.

Declan Rice came out with credit but if things go on as they are doing he will be gone and if – as is beginning to seem more and more likely – we go down the London Stadium will become a white elephant, half full,  if that.

Along the way you can see the departure of Anderson, Haller, Yarmolenko and a few others.

The West Ham board have no appetite to pay Pellegrini off but to be honest it was obvious several weeks ago it had to happen – now it’s an absolute MUST!

  • Goals: WHUFC: Ogbonna 38 ARSENAL: Martinelli 60, Pepe 66, Aubameyang 69 Aubameyang (69′minutes)

Totally agree, we are dire, nothing there at all, sleepwalking to the championship unless we get rid,

  • The Honest Friend says:

Masuaku was awful! Really hope he never plays for us again.

This is what happens when you try to play expansive attacking football with a team of average players. Granted we have a few decent premier players in the team. unfortunately we have just as many if not more championship players playing at any given time.

    • Hammers64 says:

That was the worst of the lot Hugh.He has to go.Somebody needs to get this shower going and it could be Moyes.Pellegrini is finished.Arsenal were awful too but possess goalscorers.I have never been so devoid of answers concerning this team but the manager must go now.

  • Mick says:

We should not have sacked Moyes if they don’t get rid of manager tonight we are going down we have stadium we have the support we make out we are a big team but we are a joke the board and Brady not realize that she is the weakest link

  • kcockayne says:

Yes, we should have won that. But, apart from Rice & Noble, we have no one with any real quality. Antonio tries very hard & deserves to play, but he is not great quality. Snodgrass is all effort, & nothing else. Anderson flatters to deceive – sell him. Haller is memorable for his absence – when on the pitch. Give him some support & , if he doesn’t shape up, sell him. Martin was OK. Cresswell was good. Balbuena did well, overall ,as did Ogbonna. Fredericks is not really up to it. Masuaku surprised me. I think that he is completely useless, but he didn’t do too badly tonight. Fornals has had a couple of promising games but was back to his very poor standard. Holland can’t be criticized, Ashe is finding his feet. So, in my opinion we have 5 Premier League quality players. It is not enough. And, Pellegrini ? He is clueless.

  • Artran says:

Pelle looks like an exhausted old man. The tactics he employs were sussed and exploited a long time ago. My heart goes out to Declan Rice. How many holes can one player be expected to plug in one match. The youngster had run himself into the ground after 70 minutes trying to make up for the inadequacies of the teams setup and those playing around him

  • HammerJK says:

Can’t disagree. Arsenal were terrible for 60 mins and were there for the taking. To allow them back into the game is an absolute joke.
Terrible ineffective subs from Pellegrini. Soft underbelly of the team is exposed again and yet again a side that are in horrendous form turn it around against us.
Fuming as we were in total control of that game for 60 minutes. Arsenal created nothing, not a single chance in that time.
Why on earth was Anderson taken off again when we need to get back into the game?

    • James Robertson says:

Sadly not the first time for us, or England that Rice has been caught ball watching. Cheap shot chuckingbhis arms at the bsck. It was his man runnkng from midfield, complete fault for first goal, turned the game.
First half nobody put the ball in early enough. Lack of guts to take a chance. Nobody brave enough.
We have been walking thru games since Villa away, shocking by all concerned.
Zero faith that these two fools will appoint anybody decent, our 7th manager in almost 10 years! Maybe they should look hard at themselves.
We can all take defeats, I’ve seen many since my first game in 81, it’s the manner of defeat. This is now enough
      Goodnight

  • Pacific Claret says:

Nothing will change until we have a Director of Football who understands the business of football and who has the authority to choose a manager and a squad. Letting the board make those decisions is madness.

People like Monchi at Sevilla. Whenever they sell a star, he comes up with a replacement just as good. We buy mediocre players more often than not because we don’t have someone who knows who is out there.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Agree 100% Hugh, we need someone to organise this team, so that we stop conceding 3 a game through bad defending.

  • HammerJK says:

Fredericks is not good enough at this level. Another poor game and between him and Snodgrass the right hand side of our attack is awful.
For 60 mins, Fornals, Anderson, Rice and Ogbonna stood out.
We were not playing poorly until he took Anderson off. Anderson was not great tonight but everything decent went through him and Fornals.

  • Dave says:

    Congratulations to the owners.
No ground, no soul, terrible team and a club the supporters have fallen out of love with.
They can write a book about how to destroy a football club in 5 easy steps.

  • Hammer64 says:

An article that speaks the brutal truth. At the moment I cannot see us staying up. If the board fail to sack Pellegrini it is time for voting with the feet. They are in danger of making Mike Ashley look like a good owner, if they have not already done so.

Things have been allowed to slide so far that it will be difficult to get a decent replacement. Honest Friend has it right that we do not have the players to play our way out of this mess, so the purists may have to hold their noses. Although I am not sure we have the players for a blood & guts survival mission either. All very sad, but maybe it will take this to wake the owners up to their own shortcomings. They, like the manager, are fish out of water. Three things they could do now if they really care for this club: 1. Find a manager who can get a tune out of this dejected & poorly recruited squad 2. Appoint an experienced Chief Exec who will be given the power to draw up a long term plan to restructure the club.
    3. Become ‘invisible’ and ‘hands off’ owners. Thanks for the rescue in 2010 but now the best thing you could do for the club is take a back seat.

  • LJ says:

Well can I say I told you so about 6 weeks ago .
This result was so predictable against the worst arsenal team and on worse run for ages.all my gooner mates reckon we would stuff them I told them put a tenner on arsenal winning…my phone not stopped pinging for an hour.
    What’s your ” source ” saying Hugh?

    • Mark says:

Time for a manager that bleeds with Claret and Blue blood! Someone prepared to do the job because it’s West Ham, not because they’re a washed up manager looking for one last pay day! Players also need to have WHU DNA. If we are going to go down let’s go down fighting and with some good old fashioned spine and principles!

  • Tony says:

    Sake him NOW

  • Tony says:

    Sack him NOW

  • Hammers64 says:

I actually thought i was in a cathartic nightmare watching that.It felt surreal no kidding as if everything was at half speed between 2 terrible teams.Never had that watching West Ham in 40 years.Sad thing is they will prolong the agony by giving him the Southampton game and so on and so on.We will never break out of this horror until a new man is appointed.Huge changes needed to turn this around.

  • Trevor says:

Every player has got worse under Pelle.
If he doesn’t go now the fans will turn on the board.
He can’t do much else because he doesn’t know any different.
Should of gone after Oxford after the debacle at Wimbledon last season, gillingham must be petrified…..
If he’s not gone tomorrow the board need shooting
(Probably only keeping him around as he makes them look young!)

  • Harryboy says:

    Tactically inept a disgrace
Pellegrini has no idea of any tactical variation especially against a very poor Arsenal
Side he sat and played the same method as he had done all season absolute crap
I wonder whose worse him as manager or Roberto
    Sorry I’ve been
Going there since 1964 and think this is a shambles

  • Kevin says:

Bring back David Moyes tomorrow and call a cab for Pelligrini . It’s the only way to avoid Relegation . We daren’t lose to Southampton but I can’t see us beating a side fighting for survival whilst we are being so pathetic under Pelligrini .

  • AspiEd says:

With a Europa game to think about in 3 days time, Arsenal cannot have believed their good fortune.

Even more sadly, rather than our fortunes hiding, they are now staring down the barrel of a gun.

IMHO, if no suitable Brit available, try to get Pochettino.

  • PETER SPIRIT-JONES says:

He’s not been sacked because Gold and Sullivan will have to pay him out.We all know those two hate parting with money.
I would love Big Sam back at this stage,he saved us once before.
    Better than this Has Been!!

  • PETER SPIRIT-JONES says:

I got up early this morning to watch this game here in Australia…..ha ha ha
What an idiot I am !

    • Neil from Down Under says:

I guess I’m a bit luckier than you Peter because here where I live in rural South Australia Optus isn’t available so I could only listen to the game on the radio via the WHU website and that was bad enough without having to watch it!!

  • John Shetcliffe says:

Pellegrini’ stubborn resistance to change the players, its formation or tactics will cause this team that lacks guts, creative & defensive capabilities to be relegated if not replaced with someone better immediately!

Tonight’s Arsenal were their worst team in years & their for the taking.

This fixture demanded 3 central defenders to nullify Arsenal’s pacy attack in Aubeyang, Pepe, Martinells or Lacacette etc. Also two up front Haller & Anderson to address Arsenal’s central defence weakness to win the match for us.

But Pellegrini stuck with perpetual failures in Snodgrass, Fornals, Noble who have played poorly throughout the season as well as in this 11 game poor streak. Anderson’s confidence has been ruined by being subbed every match when he is the only player apart from Lanzini who is able to make a goal scoring opportunity for us. Whilst his defensive work is not the best you cannot win without scoring goals.

If Pellegrini cannot recognise Diop is better than either Balbuena or Ogbonno & that Masuaku who is the worst defender ever to play in the PL & always costs us a couple of goals because of the space he allows his opponents then he must go NOW!

For a long time I have been saying Pellegrini needed a defensive coach instead of his m8s because if we lose one goal we collapse & we are vulnerable to concede from every set piece.

Sullivan don’t wait until after the Southamption match we need a proven PL standard manager & expert defensive coach with a realistic transfer kity to bring in a quality centre back to partner Diop & CDM who can pass the ball to play alongside Rice & another GK to understudy Fabianski. And they need to be leaders not the gutless personalities that play for us in too many positions now!

  • Michael says:

Serves us right for thinking we are too good for David Moyes. He should have been given an extension given the mess he managed to sort out. He wouldn’t have brought in some of the light weights we did in the transfer window either.

  • Peter Bower says:

Burnley 2.0 loading….board beware, act now!
Sack the tactically inept arrogant dinosaur! Even Benitez would be better and I REALLY don’t want him! Hughton/Moyes would still bring Burnley 2.0 so just put your hands in your pockets you tight gits! Or sell my club.

Dyche, Howe, any up and coming manager British or foreign who can spank the players into playing for the shirt and have more than one tactic! ACT NOW OR WE ARE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

  • Colin says:

The owners need to go, the Premier league is to big for them to compete.
They picked the manager and probably are heavily influencing the choice of players.
Get rid of the lot of them, so many promises to the fans of next level football, challenging foe Europe, has anything really changed?
If anything, things have got so much worse under their ownership.
Barrow boys trying to compete with oligarchs and failing dismally.

  • mark wiggins says:

I’m at the stage I agree , the players don’t look motivated and Pelligrini won’t change tactics . Doing the same thing and keep loosing is stupidity . The players also need to look at themselves get someone in who can organise them and get them fighting again , enough is enough.

  • Mr Buddy Lurve says:

If you’re desperate for a win,
Or in a lengthy goal drought,
    Come play West Ham,
    We’ll surely help you out.

    Our manager’s inept,
    Our players are sad,
    We might even go down,
    Our results are that bad.

    So, what we do we
    To stop this rot
    Sack Pelle, hire Big Sam,
    No, no, surely not.

You see we’ve been here before,
    Short term fixes aren’t right
We need a young hungry Brit
To save us from this plight.

    I’d go for Lee Bowyer,
He’s done well at the Addicks,
    He’s got West Ham blood,
I’m sure he knows a few tricks,

    To get West Ham firing,
    With fight in their bellies,
So we can cheers once again,
At the bowl, or on our tellies.

    (You’re welcome. I’m here all week…)
