West Ham are continuing to carefully monitor summer target Maxi Gomezc as Celta Viga’s slump into the La Liga relegation zone.
The Hammers remain keen on the striker and the the club’s precarious League position makes it very interesting for the Hammers financially.
For it has been reported that should the club drop out of La Liga, the release clause in his contract drops from £42 million to £22 million.
The Hammers see him as the long term replacement for Andy Carroll who now appears to have arrived at the point of no return with the club.
The club were close to agreeing a deal with Celta in the summer with an agreement the Irons would loan him back to help the Spaniards in their relegation struggle.
That broke down late on and currently they are in the bottom three with 25 points from 27 games.
They now need to overhaul either Real Valladolid or Villareal who both have 26 points from 27.
Huge price drop but it begs the question – how good is he really? His stats are nothing special, he’s bang out of form and his team are facing relegation from a league which is less competitive as the prem, aside from the top 3
Or 4 teams.
His position – and form, along with that of his team – mirrors our own experience with Arnie. What’s good for the goose, etc……
Gomez could be the next Simone Zaza for all we know. Still if we can get him cheap he’s young enough to take a punt on I suppose.
Nice dude.
