West Ham United’s quest for a defensive leader this summer has been complicated by reported interest from Manchester United in Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Max Kilman.

With departures expected for Thilo Kehrer (loan to Monaco likely to become permanent) and potentially Angelo Ogbonna and Nayef Aguerd, West Ham manager David Moyes is in need of reinforcements at centre-back. Kurt Zouma’s ongoing injury issues and lack of form further emphasise the need for a strong addition.

The 26-year-old Kilman has emerged as a potential solution for the Hammers. Encouraging comments from Wolves boss Gary O’Neil, a former West Ham player, suggesting a willingness to sell players, fueled speculation of a January transfer.

Despite the interest, a transfer for Kilman never materialised during the winter window. Financial restrictions across the Premier League were likely a contributing factor.

According to The Times, Manchester United has now joined the race for Kilman. Defence has been a major concern for United this season, making their interest in a central defender understandable. The Times  also suggested that Marc Guéhi might be their top target, but Kilman has also been included on their shortlist.

The probability of the lack of European football at West Ham next season could be a disadvantage in attracting established players like Kilman. Manchester United, with its global fanbase and potentially higher salary offers, could be a more attractive destination.

But,if Guéhi is truly Manchester United’s primary target, it could leave the door open for the Hammers to land Kilman.

Why would Kilman leave a massive club for a much smaller club who can’t even afford their own stadium, you “FINK ” you are big because you are in landan.

    Kilman is going nowhere!

Yeah funny wolves can’t even fill their stadium? West ham have 62500 at every game and will soon have 66500 which will be the second only to old trafford😂 West ham don’t need to buy the stadium they have a ninety nine year lease at a peppercorn rent. Less outgoings more money for good players, and Kilman is a London lad so he would definitely be interested in joining a team on the up !!!!

Any player will go anywhere for the money. kilman is not the player west ham need, I’m not even sure he’s good enough. I’m a Wolves fan and if we got a decent bid he can go, he’s English that’s it, not a great defender in my opinion, only looks good when Dawson has been next to him
