Managing supporters expectations for deadline day is always something of a balancing act – however it seems likely that little in the way of incoming player transfers will be concluded today at the London stadium – although there’s some noise this morning from French journo Sacha Tivolieri over a permanent signing that is still unconfirmed – which Martin covered earlier.
Much more likely, loans at best: One area that has been highlighted is at left back following the recent departure of El Hadji Malick Diouf.
With French defender Melvin Bard, who was a key target, set to join Leeds United from Nice on a loan‑to‑buy deal, West Ham have quickly shifted focus toward Manchester United left‑back Harry Amass. Burnley held initial talks but have since moved on, leaving the Hammers competing with Birmingham City and Norwich for the teenager’s signature.
United are pushing for a permanent transfer with an obligation, while West Ham at least for now prefer a straight loan or a loan with an option.
There’s also been chatter about a possible return for Vladimir Coufal, who could cover right back, allowing Kyle Walker-Peters to play on the left, and was keen to stay before being released. However, those rumours have been dismissed as nothing more than speculation.
West Ham are also exploring further alternatives, including several high‑value free transfers should a deal not be concluded before 11pm today.
One name who could be considered is Oleksandr Zinchenko, whose contract at Ajax was terminated following an injury that restricted his appearances. Multiple clubs are monitoring him, and his agent has been actively offering the former Arsenal player around, but concerns over his recovery mean any deal will hinge on a thorough medical. This would only been seen as a back up and the player is believed to prefer a move to a European club.
Seems to me Nuno is building a team to stay in the championship . No way will they win it while he is in charge. The players he has added are no upgrades . e.g George Earthy , Freddy Potts ,. Callum Marshall.
I’d take Zinchenko on a pay as you play basis, however, if we can keep Alvarez, Magassa and even Cornet (if the Medical team can work a miracle), then just a left back for me (even right back and switch KWP)
The Czech money is tied up for at least another month, so if we can get rid of Nuno, pick up a bit of form and be top half come January, then use his promised funds in that transfer window, to start building a squad capable enough of getting promoted… and staying up (with additions in the summer — can always dream of Fernandes back with us after the Spuds get relegated)
what a massively demotivating transfer window.
well at least the board can cover their backs and blame each other.
Not one player excites.
turned us into a long term championship team in 3 Months…
Morato from Forest. Jacob Steinberg and Fabrizio Romano.
We’re getting Morato from Nottingham Forest on loan.
I’d prefer Raphael Guerreiro personally, than Zinchenko. Said it ages ago. We should also go for Sancho, think Nuno could get the best out of him on a 1 year contract with an option if we get promoted……..
Anchor? Surely you don’t mean Jaden Sancho?! With Nuno…?!? 😆
