Hammers hold out small hope of Lingard signing

|

Sky Sports have reported that West Ham hasn’t completely given up on signing Jesse Lingard this summer and still believe they have a 10% chance of signing the Manchester United attacking midfielder who spent six months on loan at West Ham.

The broadcaster doesn’t explain how they came to that conclusion or that particular one in ten figure so it’s hard to tell if the piece is speculative, an opinion or has been briefed by a club source.

The report adds that the Red Devils have slapped a £30m price tag on the head of the attacker, in spite of the fact that his deal is due to run out in the summer of 2022.

A lot may depend on the sale of Paul Pogba, Manchester United are also said to be prepared to cash in on the World Cup winner who has just a year left to run on his contract at Old Trafford. Paris Saint-Germain have been heavily linked with a £50m move for the ex-Juventus ace should he decide against extending his stay in England.

If Pogba leaves Lingard’s chance of game time massively increases and he is unlikely to be sold this summer.

Jessie was fantastic for his loan period. But I don’t see him being able to sustain that form if he comes back. So I would rather we invest our very limited funds into a new striker

James, we need midfield addition too, we only have Noble as cover and love Mark but he shouldn’t expect to need to play too much this season. We are one midfield injury away from a crisis. Need a decent striker and CB too and so far, we have a GK, the least urgent of all the positions we need to bolster.

Julian completely agree especially as our first choice midfield duo were in the Euros.

Statistics show that players that played in major tournaments often suffer muscle injuries the following season. So yes unless Connor Coventry comes in playing to a level Rice did when he first broke in we are screwed.

Lets not hope Moyes is not stupid enough to pay 30m for him because I do not believe for one second he can repeat what he did last season, secondly could Moyes be so stupid to put his entire summer transfer strategy on firstly waiting for Lingard and secondly paying big money for Lingard, really hope not !!!!

  • Che says:

Real stupidity would be ‘holding out’ when you only think you have a 10% chance of getting him

  • Childish says:

What an absolute waste of time…how stupid can this get ..

  • Paul Taylor says:

What’s the betting they dither and dally so much, run out of options and end up signing Braithwaite and Ox in desperation! They’re not going to invest more than 20m in any one player, if they were serious, any so called ‘targets’ would have already been signed by now complete circus run by three clowns.

  • Julian Woodhouse says:

It is a joke, we must be the only club who acts in this way. Lingard is not coming to West Ham, and neither is Pereira by the look of things, so who else are we going to bring in because we are one midfield injury away from a crisis and in 2 major competitions. Negligence is the word that springs to mind. I love West Ham but do not like the club at all under it’s present owners.

Lingard doesn’t have a new contract with ManU. It seems the transfer market this year is like dominoes, when one falls the rest will follow.
The fact they are considering sending Coventry away suggests there is a replacement. We have acquired a keeper that wasn’t on my radar and suspect the others we be equally unexpected.
