The conspiracy theory that West Ham would never again play at home on Boxing day since their move to the London Stadium has been busted.
The Hammers will play Southampton at home the day after Christmas day.
The Hammers last played their last Boxing day fixture at home in front of supporters when they lost 3-1 to Arsenal at the Boleyn Ground in 2013. In 2014 they lost 2-0 away to Chelsea during the festive period while in 2015 it was a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa away.
In 2016 after the move to the London Stadium it was a 450-mile round trip to visit Swansea away in which the Irons come away the 4-1 winners.
In 2017 it was a trip to Bournemouth on Boxing day to lose 3-0 and in 2018 another South coast away trip to Southampton the Irons them leave 3-1 winners.
2019 saw a local derby with the Hammers travelling to Crystal Palace on the festive period only to lose 2-1.
Finally, 2020 saw a boxing day game at the London Stadium against the Saints. The game was moved to 29th December and played behind closed doors due to the pandemic to a 0-0 draw so doesn’t really count.
With Covid restrictions set to be lifted in July, the boxing day game of 2021 seems to be well and truly back on the cards.
Great stuff Sean , informative . I fully intend on being there to cheer the lads on . Let’s hope we have a great transfer window . Unrelated , we’ll sort of , I’m reading that Lingard may be offered a new contract at Man Utd . I ask as it came from ex , any news from your sources as would like us to sign at a realistic price ⚒
Mark, we ran the story back in April https://www.claretandhugh.info/exclusive-uniteds-new-lingard-offer-revealed/
It is in Man United’s interest to offer a new contract and maybe in Lingard’s to talk about it. He needs to keep his options. At the end of the day he has a decision to make about wages and playing time
Thanks , Sean Must of missed the report , cheers , we can still hope ⚒
Many people saying well never play Boxing Day at home and blaming gsb for some bizarre reason. Apologies required.
