Hammers increased expectations next season

|

West Ham have upped their bottom line scenario from top 10 to top seven as the new season approaches.

Manuel Pellegrini and Mario Husillos are currently in pursuit of the reinforcements which would ensure the Irons push onwards and into the European qualifying places.

The top ten was the “absolute bottom line” in the manager’s first season but nothing short of a top seven position will be sufficient this time around.

Injuries and bad decisions are all well and good but there can be no excuses this time and the manager is focused entirely on the job at hand for the 2019/20 season.

We were told by a top insider on the ‘phone: “We were looking forΒ  stability to be the main aim last season and that was achieved despite plenty of issues which have been well documented.

“The absolute bottom line was a top ten position but this time it’s top seven or bust. The club is progressing and to be involved in Europe is the concrete signal of that.

“That is entirely the agenda for the new season along with the better and beter football we have been were seeing.”

Please ell your top insider that a 30 or even 50m budget is not top 7 levels of spending

you spend mid table you will likely get mid table

    What cbwhu said.

If you finish 10th and invest less than the teams in 7th, 8th and 9th then don’t be surprised at finishing 10th again… or lower.

Hmmm.. I would assume the top six remain unchanged. In that case we have to finish above all of Wolves, Leicester, Everton & Watford. It’s also assuming there are no ‘surprise packages’ like Burnley in 2017/18 (Villa perhaps?) Also assumes none of the others in the usual chasing pack really push on ( e.g. Newcastle with a new owner). It looks to me as if it will be harder than at any time in the last few years to get in the top ten, let alone seventh. It is possible, but I reckon it will need big spending and, even more important, very successful spending. It will also need several of those other sides I just mentioned to perform well below their potential. And the Hammers to have one of the best injury records. That’s a lot of positive things that need to happen!

Leicester did spend spend spend. Think they were fined for breaking FFP rules getting out of the Championship- hardly enough to bother them because they have ( guess what?) rich owners. Richer than ours. Why do you think they ended up with Maguire- who we were linked with a couple of seasons back. Why did Wolves get Dendoncker & Raul Jimenez, who we were also supposed to be after? Maybe these guys would much rather live in the Midlands than in London. Perhaps they prefer playing in front of smaller crowds than they would get with us? Perhaps they just don’t like our stadium? Or could it be to do with MONEY? πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”
