Hammers linked to former Liverpool midfielder

|

The Hammers are again being linked to a move for one time Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen.

The story comes courtesy of the Daily Telegraph and looks way off the pace if we are brutally honest although the report claims that Watford are also interested in the Stoke player.

It would be a disappointment if Manuel Pellegrini and Mario Husillos were to have targeted a player who, despite helping the Potters away from the Championship relegation zone, has himself experienced a mixed campaign.

City have endured a deeply disappointing season and whilst making his contribution, Allen has hardly been one of the Championship’s star operators.

He has made 43 appearances this campaign and has always been recognised as a creative individual but it would certainly seem his best years are behind him.

The Welshman had a four year spell at Liverpool where he made  60 appearances between 2012-2016 before moving onto Stoke where has seen action in 114 games for 14 goals.

A couple of season ago I was hopeful we would sign him to replace Noble but now I am not so sure, hopefully Husillos will find some gems or free transfers that can perform the same role.

I think we have a tendency as football fans to write off a player who is no longer flavour of the month. I can remember quite clearly in past years when we were relegated, we expected certain players to totally dominate at Championship level. Carrick and Parker being two that come to mind. Great players but for whatever reason didn’t particularly stand out at a lower level.

I would be OK with Joe Allen coming in as a squad player on the right money. If Pellegrini thinks he is technically good enough, then that’s fine by me. He’s just turned 29 so not as old as I thought, but money is key. I don’t want to pay 20m for a 29 year old squad player on big wages.

Ideally, we’d be ambitious and spend big on Jack Grealish, but if Villa don’t go up, I imagine he’ll end up at Spurs or Leicester or Wolves or Everton or Bournemouth or any other club willing to put their money where their mouth is.

No please tho I like Allen been a good move when he left Liverpool but if buying from Championship Mich better even John Mcginn who we were kinked with has had a great season set up 9-10 scored some screamers. Neal Mapauy be a good 1 of the 2 CFs we buy bc fast & creative. On Acottich players & midfielder we should look at David Turnbull only 19 & is Motherwells top goal acoerr with 10 -& most assists with 6. Would only coay £3-5m be a good prospect & onveestment.
But I love the Dani Ceballoa linked him over Allen anydah & at £18m for a 22yp versatile mid. He is a great oasswe holds ball good dribble can drive fwd with pace & score some gaols. Also he isn’t afraid to get stuck in twakf back make some tackles he would be great partner for Rice. Tho they want loan would sell. I know Pellegrini doesn’t like loan but if they prefer loan with buyout we should do it & only on £20k supposedly which we could double & make less then Aleen then get Sanchez £70k wages off
