Hammers linked to Serie A striker

|

Duvan Zapata is back at the centre of speculation linking him with the Irons

It was reported back in February that we had offered a fee of offered a  figure’ of €40m in the winter market for Atlanta’s on loan striker from Sampdoria only to see the bid rejected.
Two months later reports emerged that a €50 million price tag had been placed on his head and the Hammers, having failed in a move for Maxi Gomez before moving on to  Sebastian Haller, were interested.

Now Calciomercato claim we  have put a ‘proposal on the table’ for his signing, presumably relating to the upcoming January window.

Zapata has seven goals and three assists so far this season, which is impressive given he’s been out since early October with a muscle injury.

ClaretandHugh says: Lovely thought but of course it wasn’t going to happen on the previous occasions and it’s certainly not going to take place in this transfer window. Zapata is a top player and even assuming we had €40 million, which we haven’t – negotiations would be incredibly difficult over such a short window. It is also complicated by the fact that he has two or three agents and although he is on loan from Sampdoria Atlanta hold an option to buy. The Colombian is in terrific form and would have been a good buy but Haller has done well since arriving and in a different formation – with a partner – would be an even better front man. However, the Hammers simply do not have the sort of cash required to make any sort of bid for the player and this – sadly – will have to go down as another piece of the approaching silly season speculation which sadly is going to lead nowhere.
