Hammers make “very clever” move

|

West Ham have been told they have managed to produce a masterstroke in grabbing Pablo Fornals ahead of the European under 21 Championship.

As reported elsewhere here Pablo was part of the Spanish triumph against Germany last night but for Fulham defender Liam Rosenior has looked beyond that in  his assessment of the new Iron.

Fornals has been widely lauded in the media for his abilities as a player but the speed with which Mario Husillos moved to get the deal tied up was significant.

For there seems no question that had he waited until the tournament was over the Hammers would have met with some pretty widespread competition from other clubs with the price becoming more and more inflated.

Fornals had a quiet final against the German youngsters last night but his performances in general have been top quality and we really do appear to have a great talent on our hands.

Rosenior said: “They [West Ham fans] should be excited especially from what I’ve seen at this tournament. He seems like the complete midfield player.

“He can score goals, he can link play, he can make assists he has got fantastic technique and I think everyone involved at West Ham can’t wait for him to join the club in pre-season.

“Very clever to get him before the tournament was done, credit to all the recruitment staff at West Ham as I think they’ve got an absolute steal on their hands.”

Hugh, I watched the game last night and have to say based on last night’s performance I would not have paid 24m for him. I hope I am wrong but I just did not see anything to get excited about. I suppose the same could be said of their 10 who had a poor game too and everyone is raving about him. Lets hope it was a once off.

    • Wouldn’t wanna judge on that game which frankly didn’t do a lot for me generally John. I have come to trust the management duo lots and they know the lad inside out so I’m pretty hopeful

That’s just football. I’m sure you could find a few Aguero matches where he doesn’t look up to much. Anderson is a good example, some matches he didn’t look in the game, others he looked a world beater. Hopefully he kicks on after a season sussing out the Premier League. Bring in more quality like Fornals and hopefully Sanson and the game gets easier with more space opening up. Add a proper striker who can read the clever through balls (hopefully that’s Gomez) and we’re set for a fun season.

I have to say in today’s seriously over-inflated market Fornals stock probably increased by £10m on the strength of Spain U21’s tournament win last night.
I hope we can sort out the Gomez saga sooner rather than later, bin off chicharito, Obiang and Sanchez, Byram and Hugill .. get in a defensive mid and we’re looking good for August 😃
