Hammers fans watching Pablo Fornals in the Euro Under 21 Championship final last night against the German youngsters were probably left frustrated at his 70 minute appearance.
The new Hammer – arriving at the London Stadium at a cost of around £27 million – saw little action as the Spanish youngsters triumphed 2-1.
Yes, he demonstrated decent movement and was always looking to take up key positions but failed to make a serious impact on the game before being subbed.
He certainly has good touch and clearly enjoys one touch football as he played off one or two very good balls in a manner which demonstrated why the boss likes him.
But in terms of having a real influence on the game we were left a little disappointed although it has to be added that he is obviously a very talented player to be involved given the strength of the young Spanish team.
Spain’s under 21s took the lead early on through Ruiz, added a second through Olmo before Germany grabbed a consolation near the end through Amiri.
He plays on the left for them and the ball was mainly on the right, especially in the first half.
Not much you can do about that.
He showed he is disciplined and all about the team, by sticking to his position, working hard and tracking back.
It would be nice to see him more central for us (if he can handle the prem), so he can be involved all the time
I would be interested to see how much it would cost to bring in Mayoral as a striking option
Looked like he was frozen out last night
and when play was near him he found good positions to receive the ball but other
Options were chosen ?
Looks like a smart player though
