Hammers starting 11 down under

|

David Moyes has named his West Ham United team the pre-season tour match with Perth Glory in Western Australia and has benched Divin Mubama which will be a disappointment to many.

However, six first teamers in Łukasz Fabiański, Kurt Zouma, Emerson, Pablo Fornals, Gianluca Scamacca and Danny Ings all start at Optus Stadium, where the Hammers kick-off against their A-League opponents at 6pm local time (11am in the UK) are included along withFlynn Downes and Freddie Potts .

Potts’ his start comes less than 24 hours after the Club announced he had signed a new three-year contract, showing the faith David Moyes and his staff have in the 19-year-old midfielder.

Three other members of the Irons’ development squad, defenders Levi Laing and Luizão and midfielder Dan Chesters, are also in Moyes’ starting XI i.

Twenty-year-old Laing, who made his first-team debut as a substitute in the 4-0 Conference League win over AEK Larnaca in March this year, can play at right-back or centre-back.

Laing’s regular developmental teammate Luizão is a 21-year-old Brazilian defender who joined the Hammers from São Paulo in January and featured regularly for Mark Robson’s side in Premier League 2.

Chesters is a 21-year-old midfielder who made his first-team debut in our UEFA Europa League group-stage win over KRC Genk in October 2021 and spent part of last season on loan at Colchester United.

Another of Monday’s goalscorers at Boreham Wood and the man whose goal secured us the Conference League trophy, Jarrod Bowen, is one of the nine substitutes named for the Glory game.

Two other Prague heroes are also among the replacements in left-back Aaron Cresswell and centre-back Angelo Ogbonna, who made a late appearance in the final

They are joined by goalkeepers Joseph Anang and Jacob Knightbridge, who have been out on loan at St Patrick’s Athletic and Harrow Borough respectively in recent months.

FA Youth Cup winning centre-forward Divin Mubama, who scored his first senior goal in Claret and Blue in a Conference League win over AEK Larnaca at London Stadium in March, is also on the bench. The Newham-born forward does not turn 18 until October, but was part of the squad which defeated Fiorentina in Prague.

The bench is completed by Republic of Ireland U21 midfielder and former captain Conor Coventry, Kamarai Swyer and George Earthy.
