Hammers table £27m bid for defender

|

Claret and Hugh can this morning confirm that a £27m bid was tabled by West Ham for 27-year-old Burnley and England centre back James Tarkowski.

John Percy writing for the Telegraph broke the news first yesterday evening but like his  Grady Diangana Exclusive, three days earlier the actual amount is wrong.

Percy suggested that a £20m offer had been tabled for the Burnley defender but Claret and Hugh have learnt the actual bid amount was £27m.

The Telegraph suggested the bid had been turned down but we do not believe that is the case as it stands with the Hammers still waiting to hear a response.

Leicester City had had a bid of £20m snubbed by Burnley for defender Tarkowski in 2019 and publicly the Clarets value their defender at £50m.

David Moyes is understood to have a number of backup options should Burnley decide not to sell their England defender in this transfer window.

It wouldn’t make sense for him to leave a team that consistently finishes higher than us in the table. If he were to leave it would surely be to a top 6 team as I’m sure he has a list of potential suitors far better than us.

Totally agree this. Nothing about this alleged bid makes any sense at all. Why would Burnley accept £27m when they’ve turned Leicester down in the past? Why would Tarkowski want to come to West Ham when he’s an England squad player and already at a club that consistently knocks at the door of European football? If he signs for us, who does he replace in the team: Ogbonna, who was a solid performer last season, or Diop, who is still young and has a lot of potential? Surely, better to bid for some full backs and some defensive midfield cover than for another CB. Solid defending starts much further up the field, and we’re cyrrently screwed if Rice or Soucek gets injured.

If they get him then selling Diang is the correct move. They won’t get him though. We’ll end up with some bang average cb from a mid table French team who will make no impact. Same old same old.

Tarkoswki..?!?!? … Ummm, its it April 1st …..?

If West Ham have £27mil. to spend on a Central Defender, I sure as fudge hope they don’t waste it on Championship quality, about to turn 28 year old, who’s only a shade over 6 foot, and ….simply not good enough.

Shoot me down if I’m wrong, but if Man. City have blown apart the ffp idea, meaning clubs don’t have to stick to money generated by football, then why can’t G and S dip into their own well lined pockets as Abravomic is doing at Chelsea?

    • Mac5631 says:

Perhaps because their pockets aren’t quite as well lined as they’d have us believe?
      Paper rich, cash poor?
Interesting juxtaposition in the fact that Sully’s property ’empire’ is possibly being challenged with regard to tenants wanting lower rents (due to Covid), whilst the other old frauds buisness are asking their landlords to lower rents to enable them to survive.
Stick the two of them in an MMA cage, fight to the death, winner take all 😆😆😆

Just done for show to try and appease the fans

27m was never even gonna be considered by Burnley

They know the value of their players and wants to ha g on to their better one

Ironic when you look at the absolute state of us when selling

£27m for an England CB have to admire the optimism, is he in the last year of his contract? Think he’s a decent defender, it’s a left back that can defend we need more. Fredericks and Masuaku aren’t good enough, Johnson looks good but needs a left back that’s also good enough, to make up for Diang Tarkowski, Henry and Watkins would be a good start.

  • Dusty Miller says:

It’s a distraction by the owners who want the money made on the sales of Hugill Ajeti and Diangana to cover the money lost by the no supporter sales over the covid 19 losses!! And IMHO there will be no new faces coming in unless there cheap or on a free transfer , would not believe the hype being put out till we see a decent player signing a contract in a picture on the West Ham official website???
