Fabrizio Romano has revealed the identity of West Ham United’s latest signing within the last hour — and it will come as little surprise.
Axel Disasi has agreed to join the Hammers on loan for the remainder of the season from Chelsea, according to the Italian journalist.
The 27-year-old French centre-back has been deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge after being frozen out of Chelsea’s first team this season. He spent the second half of the 2024–25 campaign on loan at Aston Villa, making 10 appearances across all competitions.
Loan Move Nearing Completion
Speaking on social media, Romano said:
“Axel Disasi, close to joining West Ham on loan deal from Chelsea as talks advance to final stages.
Disasi was never close to joining Italian clubs despite several reports and West Ham are now accelerating.”
Disasi originally joined Chelsea from AS Monaco for a fee of around €30 million. As part of the agreement, he will be ineligible to face his parent club in Saturday’s Premier League fixture.
The move adds numbers to West Ham’s defensive ranks, though questions will remain over whether it represents genuine first-team improvement or with many desperate for the club to spend on the likes of Charlie Cresswell.
Not sure what prompted Chelsea to sign him from Monaco and even less what us from them, let’s hope seeing as expectations are low if he signs he ends up being much better than we thought and does something that earns us points.
Don’t remember much about Disasi, excepting he is strong and a no-nonsense defender who does the basics well. More like Forest’s Murillo than Milenkovic perhaps. We have some backup in case of injury, also a bit of competition.
Our defence has already improved and there does seem to be quite a bit of individual coaching & attention to detail, guessing from changes/improvements you see in individuals on the pitch? That’s a very good sign I think, so hope they can well with Disasi as well.
Don’t think others will join WHU in the current situation. Cresswell can see his season out quite comfortably at Toulouse and take his pick of clubs come Summer.
Westham can sweeten the deal for Cresswell . Pay a high loan price ( 6-7 million or more ) with a relegation clause to protect Cresswell and obligation to buy if Westham survive . Premier League experience for Cresswell with no risk of him being dragged down to the Championship and a nice pay off for his current club which ever way it goes . Cresswell will likely prevent 10 goals or more which equates to about 10 points extra , which gets Westham to about 45 points and safety . It’s a low risk no brainer .
Our defence always has a Dilemma, now we’ll have a Disasi. Quite the upgrade!
Disasi good at airial clearances, defending corners and that’s something we need. He wasn’t great in wide areas at Chelsea or playing a high line apparently but that’s because they were playing him as a right back i think. Not his position.
He’s a marginal upgrade on what we have, but realistically, we aren’t going to turn into a team that keeps 8-9 clean sheets in the last 15 games. We are going to have to outscore teams to win enough games have a chance of staying up.
Axel Disaster? Cripes. Let’s hope I’m wrong.
If they aren’t spending it on a defender then there is £35m to spend on attacking players.

We might like the club to bring in Cresswell but we don’t know anything of any details of cost, fitness, suitability, appetite, attitude, ambition or everything.

Why would Charlie Cresswell come? Honestly.
From what i remember Disasi has a bit of pace and physicality about him – dont know how much bottle he has for the fight we are in – but realistically which first pick Prem defender is jumping on his charger to come to our rescue. We’ve had Igor for half a season and Disasi is an upgrade
Let’s get real … if hes got the heart for the fight – he could be a decent pick up on loan.

Centre Back options were always limited and regardless of whether he improves the team or just adds to the squad how long will it take to get him match fit? Signing anyone from the ‘bomb squad’ is a massive risk
Even if Sullivan were prepared to meet the cost of Cresswell, there’s no way he would join us now. Why would he?
Why? We don’t need or want him. We need a solid reliable defender who is better than the ones we already have. Thoroughly disappointing signing. I hope he turns out better than I think he will be.
