How CandH rated the Irons at Anfield

|
Gonzo hands out his marks

Fabianski:8 Tipped the ball over the bar following a powerful Nunez shot Unable to stop the same player’s opener. Point blank save to deny Firmino. Rescued Cresswell following a sloppy pass.

Johnson:5 At fault for the first goal allowing Tsimikias too much space to cross. Had a very tough night but got better towards the end.
Zouma:7 It was good to have him back. Had to defend constantly.
Kehrer:6 Nunez drifted in between Kehrer and  Zouma for Liverpool’s opener. Could have scored with a header at the end of the first half. Almost gifted Liverpool a goal.
Cresswell:6 Not easy for Cresswell. Playing against Salah is difficult enough but Liverpool were able to deploy Trent in a forward position because there was no threat of anyone running behind him. Dug Kehrer out of trouble.
Downes:7 Tough Premier League baptism for Downes. Clever flick for Bowen which led to West Ham penalty. Continued to improve throughout the game.

Rice:8 At times looked like our best player but drowned in the first half tactics like so many others. Clearly desperate to push the team forward, outstanding in the second half. If Liverpool didn’t want to buy Declan Rice before this game they certainly will now.

Soucek:6 Worked his socks off as part of the four man defensive midfield set-up. Like the West Ham team as a whole he improved in the second half. Should have scored from 3 yards but forced a wonder block from Milner.
Fornals:4 It’s difficult to assess Fornals as an attacker because he really isn’t one anymore. As a defensive wide player or secondary left back he put in his usual lung bursting shift.
Bowen:5 Won and took a penalty but unable to strike with any conviction. Demonstrated good awareness to set up Soucek near the end of the game.
Scamacca:4 Too many defensive players to supply him effectively in the first 45. Was often frustrated.
Benrahma:7 60 min replacement for Fornals. Had an unchallenged chance from 6 yards but side-footed softly to the keeper. Offered far more threat than Fornals.
Antonio: 73rd min substitute for Flynn Downes. Set up Scamacca who was wasteful.

Not sure how you’re giving Kehrer a 6. He was awful. Completely out of his depth. Not a centre half in my opinion. Full back much better. Also Bowen much better than a 5. Sure the pen was rubbish and had no conviction but he played well. Rice superb. Shame we couldn’t grab a point but at least the second half was positive.

Good ratings and comments but I would disagree just on 2. Soucek yet again was horrendous, he contributed nothing. Moyes is putting his job on the line as this is no longer acceptable. Secondly Furnals is a gifted player bring played put if position by a manager who takes no risks. Fornals has to pjay as an 8 or 10 not out eide though he can do a job there. The obvious solution is to play Fornals in midfield and drop Soucek. This will never happen under Moyes. Moyes has brought us as far as he can unless he starts changing his approach. The lads put in a good shift tonight but the same csnt ve said of the manager.
