How we rated the Irons against Villa

|

Hughie hands out his marks

Fabianski: Fabulous game – not a foot or hand wrong as he made four or five outstanding saves 8

Johnson: Fortunate to have a young man who can play right or left given Cressie’s injury. Defended well. forward movement and crossing left a bit to be desired 7

Dawson: Saw a close range header go over the top after Zouma’s had been saved – defended well enough 6+

Zouma: Keeps everything so very simple and rarely troubled – unlucky with that brilliantly saved header 8

Creswell: Looks doubtful for Thursday after going off with what looked like a muscle injury – did well before that 7

Rice: His great run and ball to Benrahma for the Fornals assisted goal was a magical moment. Top game from the skip 8+

Soucek: Much better performance as he got forward a lot more – had a couple of chances and defended well 7

Lanzini: Another good performance from Manu who again might have scored but was always busy and creative 7

Benrahma Started really well, faded and then supplied a great ball for the Fornals goal 6+

Fornals: Fine goal but very much a bits and pieces performance beyond that 6+

Antonio: Less than average display – poor touch very often and subbed with what looked like another hamstring problem 5

Subs:

Yarmolenko: Such an emotional moment when he scored after a standing ovation when he arrived for Antonio. Only football writes these scripts 11

Fredericks: No complaints after arriving following the Cresswell injury 6

Diop: Late arrival No rating
