How we rated the Irons against Wolves

|

Niall McDonald hands out the marks

Fabianski: Looking ever more dependable 8
Cresswell: Found some excellent crossing positions which weren’t anticipated by team mates 5
Diop: Outstanding. Didn’t deserve to be on the losing side today 9
Balbuena: Could be the start of an excellent defensive partnership 8
Fredericks: Booked for the first real foul of the match in the first half. Looks raw, but clearly has potential  5
Sanchez: Obviously losing the ball for the winner was a critical moment. Before then this was an adequate if unexceptional display 5
Wilshere: Up against a Wolves midfield very similar in stature and pace Wilshire was really disappointing 4
Antonio: Pretty typical fare. Subbed on 74 mins having drifted out of the game a little 5
Anderson: Much better after the interval – nevertheless I still tried really hard not to wonder if we might expect a little more for £40m 5
Snodgrass: Made a decent enough start. Seemed distraught that his free kick clipped the wall and went for a corner. Unfortunate to be subbed at the break 6
Arnautovic: Getting closer attention from defenders so fewer chances. Denied by Patricio’s face late on 6

Subs
Yarmolenko: Very bright 15 mins after coming on, then seemed to fall into an inside-right position never really finding space or the ball 5
Obiang: A little surprised to see him on not Noble. Managed a shot from distance that was only a yard wide 4
Hernandez: Again, struggling to see the logic of bringing on a penalty area poacher and then continually failing to get him and the ball in there at the same time 3

You had to try really hard to wonder if a £40 million player should get more than a 5?! An average sub should get a 5! Probably the most important score is as a Team and that is Zero we are so far from a Team it’s untrue.

Perhaps MP will now pick his words very carefully ( he is very happy with the squad & would not buy anyone if he had the money ) well he may be happy but most of the fans are most unhappy Wilshere is a busted flush & cannot compete in the premier unless others in the rteam do all the chasing & this failure is down to MP he said he was buying a squad but he neglected to buy a more youthful one & the team has the same faults as last year no pace in midfield this should have been the priority before buying wingers, I cannot see WH getting any points from Chelsea, ManU or Everton unless he can work a miracle with the current bunch of players

LOL Lets see if you delete my comment this week when I disagree again.
3 Cresswell – Never a 5, marked up for crosses. Every time he chose to cross they were nothing balls (Although perfect for Andy) Rated the same as Fredericks somehow.
6 Sanchez – Also, not a 5 and much better than Cresswell. He was non stop and have given the team great balance. Demanded the ball to get the moving quickly few times as well
6 Wilshere – Somehow you rated him worse than Cresswell
3 Antonio – You rated him 5, were you watching different game? Was so lazy, terrible touch. Usually when he lost the ball he charged back after it, now he shrugs his shoulders. Time and time again when he was on the left we were exposed when he didnt track back.

Agree with your ratings thought Sanchez was excellent apart from the mistake 9 times out of 10 that doesn’t result in a goal but when you are down these things happen. I am struggling to understand why we are so slow without the ball to get back in defensive positions perhaps the team don’t understand the system but they have played this way for a few seasons now (without the ball) we had good possession but moved the ball too slowly and created next to nothing, until those players start working hard to defend we will continue to ship soft goals. Wolves were not excellent as described on MOTD they were average and if we were on form would probably have despatched them comfortably, MP should consider taking the players out of the country to work during the international break and get away from the negativity so they can clear their heads and reset for the rest of the season.

4 games no points, players take the blame to a degree but the manager has been extremely poor both tactically and with team selections. I still cannot believe or comprehend that he failed to see that he needed to buy a top CM and a 10. I watched Seri against brighton today – what a player. I fail to understand why he continues to pick Wilshere, I fail to understand why he believes Fredericks is a better RB than Zaba, I fail to understand why does not play 3-5-2 system which suits the players we have. He has been a huge disappointment. Finally he has signed very average players in Fredericks, Wilshere and Perez.

Was unable to catch the match on TV – sounds like a really depressing afternoon

Hugh now talks of the parallels with palace last season – I think taht is a good comparison – BFS came in and saved them from relegation – they parted ways with him and went for the flair option in De Boer – and replaced him after 4 losses

Hodgson only in fact lost three (I seem to remember they were all quite tough games)

After the heavy outlay in the summer and the reportedly huge salary for Pelle it would be difficult and unfortunate to sack him so soon

I agree with some that in hindsight perhaps we should have stuck with Moyes but unfortunately that is now gone – let us hope Pelle can sort the team out over the two weeks before Everton – that will be a difficult game but not impossible – at elast a draw there to get off the mark

I see that we are now fourth favourites for teh drop on Sky Bet

  • drevil: It may have escaped your attention but fans can now give their ratings elsewhere. Unfortunatey however, they don’t allow you to have a moan up which we will assume is the point of the above..

Ratings are entirely subjective so we take yours with no more interest than anyone else’s.

    • drevil1969uk says:

Hugh – I was not moaning, I was disagreeing and gave my reasons. (Even mentioned that I was disagreeing) Surely you would want people to respond to posts, otherwise why have comments. Disagreeing is not moaning, there are enough West Ham fans that moan I am not one of those in fact been criticised for being too positive.

That is entirely fair to take my opinion on the scores and to ignore them. If if people wish they can ignore them. Or reply, as you have. I do not come here for an argument and was merely disagreeing as I saw the game differently.
