How we rated the Irons at Wolves

Hugh hands out the marks

Fabianski: Stunning performance from the keeper – three or four amazing saves and seemingly concussed for several minutes but carried on – HERO 10

Zaba: Tough night for the veteran but put in another decent shift under pressure 5

Diop: Under pressure throughout as wave after wave of gold and black descended – not one of his best nights 5

Ogbonna: Ditto above 5

Masuaku: Survived a penalty shout but turned inside out and backwards as Wolves identified him as the weak defensive link. They weren’t wrong 2

Rice: Once again the best out field player on view – always looking for the simple pass and doing best to break up Wolves attacks 7

Noble: Lucky not to get a yellow – second and third best all over midfield

Snodgrass: Tried for his life but could never get anything really started although unlucky to be taken off 5

Anderson: Very tippy tappy stuff but one or two promising runs

Antonio: Little to offer on a night when we were over-run 3

Arnautovic: Looked as though he could be sidelined for a while as he hobbled off. No service and nothing at all on offer from him before that 2.

Subs

Carroll: Nothing to report 1

Obiang: Nothing to say 1

Hernandez: Did he actually come on 1

Subs get one each for turning up!

  1. Did you see the game, Hugh?

  2. It’s the same players every time we play that either give everything or nothing. Its no coincidence Hugh.Missing Balbuena more than any other player.Defence is a shambles midfield overrun and attack non existent.Needs freshening up in the transfer window because half that lot should not play again.

  3. Happily for me I didn’t watch last night – now I would take a draw with Liverpool and even a draw with Palace

After our 4 losses at the start of teh season we played with 3 central midfielders which helped our defence – maybe we should do that again before Pelle’s “we are a big club” comes back to bite us – if we play either Noble or Obiang alone we get over run in midfield – maybe with both we could manage to avoid that

  4. The first two goals were down to dissapointingly bad defending from Snodgrass and then Rice. I know they are C and H favourites but in the interests of fairness should this not have been reflected in the ratings?

    • Having seen the second goal would say thats a bit harsh on Rice, he was trying to block it but Jimenez made a great run, would agree about Snoddy for the first one though, as for the third Diop was in between a rock and a hard place, good play by Wolves though. What is disappointing is the plain lack of intensity, very similar to when Bilic was in charge and Moyes at some points. This team need a rocket up them before they go on the pitch, you could see one team was focused walking down the tunnel and ours were completely lacking.

  5. Season was over after we lost to Wimbledon, we wont go down. Sooner the season finishes the better. feel sorry for the supporters who travelled up last night we was shocking not even a shot on goal.
