How we rated the Irons v Villa

|

Hughie hands out the marks

Fabianski: Three fine saves and no chance with a hugely deflected goal . Very good performance 7+

Coufal: Had his work really cut out marking Grealish and probably got the worst of it but the Villa player is probably the biggest  cheat I’ve seen for a long while so a tough old job 6

Balbuena: Did little wrong again but found a bit of trouble when Grealish went through the middle for a spell 6+

Oggy: Usual 7+. Strong and robust. Good display AGAIN 7+

Cresswell: Not at the level of  recent games – struggled and gave away what could have been a crucial free kick 5

Rice: Off his usual game on a night when none were truly at their  best despite the result 6+

Soucek: Didn’t notice him for long periods. Goal-bound shot blocked in first minute and not much thereafter 5

Bowen: Vital header for second goal – always busy but looked  tired when subbed for Noble 7

Fornals: Busy but no serious input 5

Masuaku: Lots of fancy footwork but no real penetration 6

Antonio: Didn’t look ready to start and subbed at half time  after a very quiet 45 minutes 4

Subs:

Benrahma: Lovely chipped ball for Bowen’s headed goal – then quiet as Villa pressed in second half

Haller: Little service as we were pushed onto the back foot but certainly looked up for it 5

Noble: On late for the tiring Bowen and was perfectly adequate 5

    Good and accurate ratings sir.
Need to agree and say Fab was outstanding tonight. And our midfield dreadful.
Sadly, Declan has not been great for WH recently. And his comments about how great his English team mates are … irks me. Tonight his respect for Grealish and his penalty does not go off well.
Must applaud Moyes for making early substitutions, which really worked. We need to see more of Said B. He has much more than what Fornals give the team, and should be ahead of him in the first 11.
Wow, and 5th on the log feels really good. Well done management team and the hard-working players.
    Coyi. God bless West Ham.

Fair ratings, Hugh but I think 6 is slightly generous for Masuaku. I thought Rice and Soucek looked a bit weary – international breaks catching up with them? We got away with it tonight but we got nothing from Arsenal and Liverpool when we deserved a draw at least in both games. COYI.

Luck levels out eventually. We were generally woeful tonight.,last season VAR went against
us constantly, now its turned round. When Dec & Soucek are not on their game,we`ve not got much to offer.Must improve on Saturday.

    Seriously?
Bowen barely touched the ball in the first half. Sure he scored in the second but was largely invisible and Haller was there to nod the ball in. 3
Fornals looked like he was playing Sunday pickup with a belly full of beer. Better in the second but still very poor. 3
Rice is believing his own press. Sad. 3
Soucek was waiting for Rice to turn up. 4
Aston Villa are awful, and make the referee their twelfth player. Referee 1
    I hope AV get relegated.
