Injury stricken Irons: Moyes explains where we’re at

|

David Moyes and Thomas Tuchel on the touchline

We are at the start of seven days which could define the Hammers season.

It comes no tougher than Chelsea tomorrow and Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of the Europa League semi final.

And with the injuries we have sustained, to pull off a double would be a remarkable achievement and put Moysie up there with the very best most of us have seen.

Many have been calling out for him to use one of two of our under 23s but we have to trust him to kniow whether at this stage of their development they are going to be able to hack it.

To have arrived at the point we have with our limited resources is astonishing and backs up the manager’s recent view that he prefers to work with a small squad.

Addressing his various issues at www.whufc.com the manager explains where he and the squad are ahead of the two games.

He said: “I’ve tried to use it to give the players some time off to recover and get ready. We’ve got a really exciting week ahead of us, so we’re just building everybody up.

They’ve had the odd day off, but we’re really keen to keep them at it as we want to keep them sharp, ready to go and focused on playing. I think they have and it’s freshened us up. It’s freshened us all up.

Other teams might be used to it, but it’s new for us. We’re still in there, still in a decent league position and obviously in a semi-final of a major European competition.

We have to try and do the best we can in managing the squad.

We’ve managed quite well up to now and we’d have liked to have picked up a couple more points from the games recently after Thursdays, but overall if you look at the teams we’ve had to play and how we’ve played in them, we’ve tended to do okay.

We will just need to manage the squad again, keep working with them and try to get the right ones in, juggle them and get it right hopefully.”

All respect to Mr Moyes from an Irons fan loving every game we go into. I just hope he is not sending the wrong message to the Academy boys by ignoring them as an actual policy. So sad.

Now is not the time to select players from the Academy in our starting line up. Can you imagine if Moyes picked the likes of Alese, Chesters and Perkins to start against Chelsea today and what message that gives to our opponents? Put them on the bench and introduce them for the last 10 minutes for sure…… that’s if we’re not chasing the game.
