West Ham still in chase for Ajax star

|

West Ham are back in the chase for Ajax star Alvarez.

What with the imminent departure of the new British record transfer fee holder Declan Rice. The Hammers boss David Moyes needs to sign a top-class central midfielder or two to replace him quickly.

And Ajax man Edson Alvarez, 25, certainly fits into that category…

The Hammers are set to make a formal offer for the 25-year-old, having just held talks with his agent according to 90 min.

Moyes has a huge task on his hands this summer if he is to adequately replace Rice. However, the Ajax midfielder is certainly someone who is capable of filling the void left behind by the England international.

Described by The Daily Mail as an ‘exceptional’ holding midfielder who breaks up play, Alvarez would be a superb replacement for Rice at the London Stadium.

In 31 Eredivisie outings this season, the 25-year-old bagged three goals and three assists. During those appearances, he averaged 2.3 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 2.4 clearances per game. He made 77.3 passes on average per game and recorded a mightily impressive completion rate of 88.9% as per Who Scored

Edson Alvarez has power, dynamism, energy, athleticism and stamina in abundance, and he’d be a stunning signing for West Ham.

The only thing that Rice has that Alvarez doesn’t is his ability to carry the ball, so Moyes would have to sign more of a number 8 as well as the Mexican if we are to make real progress whenever Dec does leave.

At about £30m , he will not be cheap but he appears to be near the top of Moyes’s wish-list this summer.
