Irons as bad as it gets – there’s something very wrong!

|

Hammers 2 Newcastle 3

Lazy…sloppy…lethargic and worthy of nothing!

Quite simply West Ham are going from bad to worse and there is no silver lining in sight anywhere – it’s all a shambles and a very slow moving shambles at that.

Two early goals from the visitors who until today had only managed six all season knocked the heart out of a Hammers team to which defending seems to be an alien word.

Huge gaps appeared as Clark grabbed the first and Fernandez the second and but for a series of Roberto saves it could have been a whole lot worse.

A Shelvey free kick made it three but a Balbuena effort from Snodgrass’ corner, before the midfielder added one of his own near the end, made the scoreline look respectable.

But it was NOT a respectable defeat.

It was as bad and worse than anything we have seen so far this season and frankly it’s impossible to know where the manager goes from here.

At the end thousands of white seats across the stadium were telling the story – a vast number had had more than enough.

Only the stopper, Snodgrass and Balbuena can take much from a game which sees us now in 12th place under a manager who I watched very closely at times throughout the game.

At times he had the look of a broken man and  patrolled the dug out without ever making a single signal to the players.

It was almost as though they were managing themselves and sadly weren’t doing it very well.

Something’s wrong and something has to change!

The whole lot of them should be ashamed.. No excuses needed pelegrini needs to be sacked straight away ..what an absolute embarrassment….
    No heart …

  • kennycandb says:

Sorry Hugh but Roberto was to blame for all three goals. The back 4 are displaying no faith in him.
As for Pelle he is reluctant to learn from past mistakes. Fabs is no longer fabs-he is devoid of any pace. Yarmi was an absolute waste of space (as he was last week) and ditto Nobes. There must be changes for Burnley, not only in personnel but also in tactics. Christ what a day this has been!!

  • Hammerhero says:

The stopper ? He was at fault for 2 goals

    • Jon says:

      Fitness …
      pace …
      selection …
      No plan B …

Does anyone actually think pellegrini can give a rollicking … does this all point to why the board have been stalling on a new contract with Mr P ?

I posted a response to your half time comments, now comfortable on one of the new LNER trains, I cannot justify to myself the cost of rail and match tickets anymore. Do the players train together, lack of cohesion, spirit, IDEA, from a supporter perspective we love the club, claret in our veins etc., always be an Iron. A 5-6 hour travelling round trip to every home game, not a problem time to reflect. We have a “world class manager” whose answer is panic, I am sure we will be champions league next season because, because…………..

Our 8 remaining first round games are against
    Liverpool
    Chelsea
    Spurs
    Arsenal
    Leicester
    Wolves
    Burnley
    Southampton
I think that it is not over-reacting to say that we are now in trouble – I am not sure where our next win will come from
We definitely need to recall Cullen in Jan and get someone to play alongside Rice – I am so depressed right now I would take a park the bus draw

  • Peter bendall says:

This was abject dross . Horrendous team selection .before we even talk about performance …. Who is quickest player the Toon have … yes let us put in our slowest to mark him is a transcript of the Manager ( a loose term ) thinking

Zabaletta , Noble , Cresswell , Balbuena are a disgrace . sand should never play in the first team again barring horrendous injury crisis . We are now reaping the reward for kidding ourselves that Noble is a footballer . He is slow and clueless and we will never win a thing without a midfield .

  • Simon says:

There is a lot wrong, sir. Methinks an immediate inquest should be lodged with regards this 1st team.
    1. We play with a very weak manager, who does not seem to be able to take this team over the hill ahead. Pelligrini, being the 3rd highest paid manager in the Premier L.
    2. The lethargic performances of highly paid players like Anderson, Haller, Yarmo, Diop and Declan. And same players growing weaker by the week.
    3. The 2 keepers bought by Pelligrini pre-season are clearly sub standard. Roberto never kept aclean sheet since pre-season and let in silly goals.
    4. The defence us the same batch of players who leaked a considerable amount of goals last season. And gave Fab extra work to do. And just when Ogbonna shows some form, he gets dropped for massively under-performing Balbuena.
    5. The manager continues to ignore the ability of und 23’s like Holland etc who have been knocking loud to get promotion. Many of these sent out on loan, and even sold. Yet Sanchez sits on our bench and Ajeti won’t even get a spot in our und 18’s.
Yes, sir … just a few of the serious problems. Lord help us.

  • John Farrar says:

How is it you can tell our management team what needs to be done to turn rour seasons results around. Social media is all you have and you should stay out of things that you think you know more about. Just let the club get on with the task in hand and stop making it more difficult for them. We all need to get behind the club, not critise. It will get better if we all work together and install more confidence..

  • hammers64 says:

well put Hugh.I feared for us as soon as i saw the lineup but as an optimist i still felt we would squeak home against a team that has only found the net 6 times this season.Over after 20 mins for us.Bereft of confidence and guidance from a manager who has the charisma of an undertaker.Defence is now a complete shambles for sure in front of a goalie who looks shaky at best ,midfield moves sideways and back at such a pedestrian pace and our lone striker looks lost. All that possession but its useless if you move the ball about so slowly and predictably.Hard to see where the recovery begins as it is getting worse not better by the week,Somehow someone needs to give this lot an almighty shakeup and fast but i fear the worse with some serious investment needed again in January.

  • Dirk Doornbos says:

I can’t be the only one to notice we’re following the same script of the previous two mangers, semi successful first season, troublesome second season, awful third and the board let them see out a contract and expect us to foot the bill watching a team that flatters to deceive at best. If we can’t beat Newcastle at home then we’re not good enough. There’s a lot of noise about backing the manger with 109 million. But how much did the club actually spend, where’s all the big investments promised when the dildo brothers sold our home??? Same old West Ham, always struggling with nothing to show since 1980. We’re not big league, we’re not even premier league at the moment and we need a wholesale change with people coming in with ambition

  • mark wiggins says:

You know the performance was lazy and very little effort from any player . Their attitude is completely wrong the one thing I can’t stand is the no effort laziness . The fans deserve better we are s..t at the moment. I don’t take excuses like confidence look at Everton they had a bad run but made us look like we were standing still and again today . Hugh maybe you can find out what’s going on in the background cos this ain’t right. If the players are unhappy with Pelle they should sit down and sort it. Plus players should not have the power over any manager ever . We can’t always blame the manager it’s the players not doing their jobs go sort it as this can’t continue !

  • mark wiggins says:

Ps mr Noble where was the leadership , you know us fans can’t stand it when there’s no effort . No more excuses lads go get it sorted and now

  • Ruislip Hammer says:

Have to agree with all 5 points made by Simon, and it’s impossible not to lay the blame with the manager, I’m afraid.

When I saw we had an unchanged team from last week, I knew what was coming. The only one who played with any drive was Snoddy – but he was always going to veer left, so Yarmo was totally isolated on the right with Zab miles behind him passing sideways/back. Surely it was obvious this would happen? I can forgive Rice his shocker today as he can’t bail us out every week, but the rest of them – embarrassing.

How the manager can put that team out after last week is beyond me.

  • Whitey says:

Quite what was in Pellegrini’s thinking playing Zabaleta ahead of the lightning fast maximin is beyond me. Balbuena played like his legs were not communicating with his brain. Haller looks slow, lazy and and a poor mans Heskey, but then, what service does he get. Crosses that either hit the 1st man, or sail past the box and out for a throw. Yarmolenko’s bottle job was embarrassing and, listen, Mark Nobles team rallying was deafening.
Have some pride, show some passion and try and demonstrate some levels of professionalism.

  • Del PE. says:

Hugh and Sean, roughly 3 weeks ago I decided to come on board as it were on this site.
Reason being that I have been a fanatactical Hammers since 1970 albeit be it from the shores of South Africa, City of Port Elizabeth.
I was fortunate to visit London in 1982 and to watch games in the World Cup in France. I watched many games at Upton Park during my stay.
Living in South Africa we are very fortunate (maybe not if you are a Hammers supporter LOL) to watch every single Premier league match played. We also watch Championship games and Caraboa /FA cup matches.
Hence me being able to comment and offer “constructive criticism” and the plaudits for our good performances.
Why did I decide to come on board….
The main reason being is this… Unfortunately many Hammers supporters are simply delusional, not that is wrong to be optimistic and to offer support during tough times BUT could we not see that even during our “fantastic” earlier wins against Norwich, Manure etc Fabianski saved our bacon on many occasions hence PAPERING OVER THE VERY OBVIOUS CRACKS that were there for all to be seen!!!
Gosh… our current squad is unfortunately average to say the least, please analyse each player and what they offer to the side.
Defensively we have been a shambles for quite a while now, midfield so pedestrian it’s unbelievable, our creative players are defensively a nightmare.
For pity sake Zabaleta ( as good as a professional he might have been is past it, Diop was being spoken of being valued at around 50 million when supposedly Manure came sniffing around, Masuaka is NOT A DEFENDER, Cresswell has not consistently being at the level needed for the premiership for quite a while, Noble, Mr West Ham over many years and correctly so is now not a box to box midfielder, to pedestrian, Declan Rice is a 20 Yr old with lots of ability BUT for pity sake his value is probably around the 50 million mark… NOWHERE NEAR 100million mentioned earlier in the year.
    Then Mr Pellegrini….
Team selections poor, formation wrong, 1striker up front at home… looks clueless on the touchline , substitutions at times diabolical, team always slow out of the blocks, no high press and his continued disrespect for our fans by his team selections in the Caraboa Cup is unacceptable!!!
I understand being a Hammers supporter is a roller coaster of a ride, I’ve been through 50 yrs of it, I have unfortunately become a pessimistic supporter as a result.
Please do not class me as a “keyboard warrior” but enough is enough… I am fortunate that I do not have to fork out hard earned money to watch week in week out , home and away and I have nothing but huge admiration for all Hammers supporters especially those travelling to away games and supporting the team to the hilt .. How you do it I don’t know but you deserve better.
Owners out, Pellegrini out, a much younger manager in… Unfortunately yet again another season that supposedly left us with so much hope… top 4/6 was being touted by delusional fans ( for pity sake..) . perhaps top 10 but I feel we are going to be sucked down, close to the relegation zone by Xmas if the 2 Daves do not get rid of MP by the upcoming international break…
The players are not playing for him or the badge and unfortunately you cannot get rid of the at least 7 players that are not good enough in our current squad.
Gosh thankfully I have today’s rugby result to hang onto ( not gloating at all as this was for me an unexpected performance by the Boks who showed such character again today. . Pity our much loved Hammers players cannot do the same!!!
    COYI

    • Justine Time says:

Well said. Even in early season wins against Man U. and Norwich it was plain to see that the Team lacked pace, fitness and grit. It grieves me to say it but I am not one bit surprised to see it come to this. No fight, no guts and no loyalty to Badge, Club or fans, and a Manager incapable of showing any emotion. Heaven help us…..

  • Micky says:

I find it funny how the same players who under perform continuously play yet 2 of our better performers the last month or 2 get dropped in fredricks and ogbonna. The manager has never been 1 for going mad on the side lines I get that but I never see him giving any kind of direction and confidence from the side. Anderson has been a complete waste of space yet still starts. He done the same again toward end of the window this year lie he done last summer panic buys in Sanchez and Lucas. This season seems to be ajeti!

I’m also sick to death of the same sub standard performances from players and the the apologises oh we will train extra harder and out it right next week, yet the next week turns up and get an even worse performance as the week previous. We have a manager who is on 7m a year 3rd highest paid in the league and he dont seem to get any kind of reaction from his players after the so called stern talking too.

I’ve said for the past year or 2 now noble is not good enough any more but pellegrini kills him be allowing him to keep breaking forward we need some one to sit next to rice and marshal that back 4 this 4141 formation dont work think ita safe to say they have tried and its failed misrably. I’m not saying go 442 but get 2 players sitting and go back to basics. Had enough of seeing us try walk the ball in to the net aswell we have a big lad up top yet our crosses are shambolic to say the least when we do try and put crosses in. Not seen a wide player attempt to take on their opps full back in a while its get wide go for a little jog stop turn back go backwards or pass inside. Were so predictable and slow its unreal.

I feel we have to go and spend again in Jan but at the min I dont really trust Pellegrini to make the adjustments I think we can all see needs to happen. No pace no creativity in the team

  • Jeff OBRART says:

The dirty behind the scenes secret is when agents insist that to sign their players they are GUARANTEED a certain number of first team games. That’s why managers are tied when it comes to team selection!! Geez some of these players would be hard pressed to get into the top 6 of any of the championship teams…
I am so sick after 60 years of making excuses for West Ham while other organizations are so much better run, invest in TOP players and a manager that DEMANDS 90 minutes… We have a bunch of overpaid, lazy buffoons….
I’d rather end up in the bottom half of the table playing 4-5 young local grown eager players than to see these untalented bunch pretending to be proud to wear the claret and blue…
I say OUT WITH THE BOARD! OUT with clueless PELLEGRINI

    • We seem to have got rid of a few boards and managers – don’t seem to change a lot

      • mark wiggins says:

I agree Hugh every time things go wrong we seem to blame the manager . The players need to take responsibility too. Looks like us fans say sack the manager every few years , in reality that has got us nowhere. I feel the players are not listening to Pelle so they need to sit down with him and sort out their problems together then get on with their jobs . Something isn’t right behind the scenes maybe you can find out what’s going on. There’s no way these players are as bad as that performance but it is down to them to perform.

  • Coventry Hammer says:

I think that other fans have adequately detailed the manager’s poor team selection in playing Zabaleta rather than Fredericks and persisting with Anderson and Yarmelenco but our work rate, or lack of, concerns me. Newcastle defended today with all of their players behind the ball whereas we defended with 8 or sometimes 9. The manager must take responsibility for this but I fear that he is inadequate for the tough challenge ahead.

  • Artrsn says:

Sack the board, sack the manager, get rid of these players. Hang on! What’s left?

  • Whitey says:

Just typed my reply only for it to disappear in a jerky advertisement refresh that is starting to make reading these pages intolerable not to mention GFPR and Cookies.
Think I preferred the old days of slower loading, but once loaded, it was yours to read. Anyway, better go now before I get bounced out again for for a commercial telling me what my sitting position is portraying.
