Transfer News: Turkish delight at ace’s Irons link

|

burak-yilmaz-galatasaray_3016926West Ham are reportedly close to signing Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz for a fee of up to £10 million.

A-Spor – a Turkish television channel – broke the news of the 30-year-old’s possible transfer to West Ham live on air today, but there is no confirmation from Upton Park.

Yilmaz has scored 111 goals in 161 games in Turkish football and journalists in the country are claiming he has caught Bilic’s eye.

That could be inspired speculation or a case of and putting two and two together and making five.

It’s difficult to accept that a 30-year-old, with no sell-on value, is being considered – particularly as the player is also demanding a three-year contract on that comes with a basic salary of  £48,000-a-week.

However, Mustafa Ozgur of Turkish-based sports newspaper AS Sports also confirms a deal is ‘largely finished’.

    I read 9 or 10m euros actually,but ok 😉

  • JagerChugger says:

Bilic has been interested in this guy since his days at Besiktas and pretty surprised we’ve not been linked with him more often during this window. Unbelievable strike rate, hope we get him

£9-10 mill seems expensive but then in another article I read it was euros not quids. Prefer this guy over Austin. Wonder if we’ve given up on Hernandez?

  • Bangkokbill says:

I hope this is true yilmaz is a great player.Has anyone seen larrows prediction !!!!!! 2-0 to leicester lol what a twit he actually gets payed for this drivle. I’ve gone 3-0 to the ammers…COYI 🙂

  • Tiddy says:

9M EUROS is just over 6m sterling not bad tbh…

  • Bob The Iron says:

What does sell on value on a 30yr old matter at £6m.Everyone seems to have gone sell-on value mad on sites recently. We need him for the here & now & at £6m for a player of Yilmaz quality it is peanuts.Every player you buy aint going to be 22 or 23.You do need some experience as well, which aint always going to bring sell-on value.

    • JagerChugger says:

Reckon Wet pants started off the sell on value theme.

      • Si Hammer says:

Lol,i believe you are right actually.I did see it alot this summer on there.Anyone over 28 & they start on about ‘sell on value’ 😀

  • Si Hammer says:

So many striker stories doing the rounds, but i guess one of them has to be true eventually, lol

  • JagerChugger says:

I guess the issue with strikers is that there doesn’t seem to be many outstanding ones our there like in the old days.

  • bubs says:

3 years at £2 million a year who needs a sell on value and he may last 5 years who knows,
Only thing is scoring Turkey seems a lot easier than England every forward has a 1 goal in every 2 games or better,
Magic could do well out they’re probably 3 goals a season

  • HamburgHammer says:

Yes, it’s “only” Turkey, but the guy has a fantastic scoring record, as a striker you cannot do more than deal with what you’re given and convert as many chances as possible.
If a team in England (hopefully us) provides him with decent opportunities in the box or playing him in with a lethal pass chances are he will put away a good number of them , regardless if he is in Turkey or England, Bilic knows him very well too.
We need a decent and also a healthy striker who is reliable to play the majority of games.
Jury is still out if Carroll could do that this season, Valencia will already be out for 2-4 months minimum and who knows what’ll happen to Sakho (potential court case) and Maiga (transfer still this window).
A side aspect to this: Loads of football fans in Turkey, it might do wonders for West Ham’s reputation if a local hero does well in England.
Can’t hurt to sell some West Ham merchandise in Turkey, hopefully not the fake versions you find on Alanya street markets obviously…

  • Si Hammer says:

Cant be that easy to score in Turkey,it aint improved Vaz Te & his goal scoring ratio, lol

  • bubs says:

Vas Te keeps his goals for special events,
Not saying he won’t be brilliant in our team and I hope we sign a forward that’s not being touted around such as Borini ect
Sakho came here with little effort has turned into a cult figure so why not another,

    • Michael Miller says:

Sorry, I’ve got no idea who/what ‘canchaz’ is – went completely over my head!

  • Michael Miller says:

‘Turkish Delight’ – see what Hugh did there – class!

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Don’t know a lot about him but scoring record looks very good, apparently according to HITC we have done a U turn on Negredo and are also now looking into signing him as Bilic has said he is the right type of player to play in his system. Would be nice to hear from the DG a don’t go to sleep quote, all this speculation is doing my head in. Would definitely be better for everyone if all transfers had to be tied up before a ball is kicked each season and furthermore do away with the winter transfer window completely or have a proper winter break and do the transfers in that two weeks. Can’t see how we will ever win a major tournament with our league format.

  • Stingray Stewart says:

Lmao, have you only come on here to dig at Hugh today Michael.First it was the fans reaction article, now this one.Did Hugh rob your last Rollo or something lastnight? 😉

  • bubs says:
