West Ham’s Bizarre Lopetegui claim

Julen Lopetegui has reportedly snubbed interest from Bayern Munich in favour of becoming the West Ham manager. This bizarre and unlikely claim has been circulating following leaks that the Spaniard has agreed to join the Hammers as David Moyes‘ successor.

It’s puzzling why any manager would turn down the opportunity for more money, Champions League football, and the chance to coach some of the world’s best players for a mid-table Premier League team.

Frankly, I don’t believe a word of it, although I’m sure it will hasten Lopetegui’s appointment if high-ranking officials at West Ham fall for this kind of nonsense. It’s a wonderful narrative to believe that the Hammers have somehow beaten the Bavarian giants of the Bundesliga to their number one target, but it’s highly unlikely.

Bayern Munich are far more likely to be biding their time with an interim manager while they wait for Jurgen Klopp to complete his sabbatical or for Xabi Alonso to become available in 12 months’ time.

Perhaps I’m wrong, maybe Lopetegui doesn’t fancy coaching Harry Kane in the Super Cup final when he could resurrect Danny Ings’ career instead.

The reason may be because he’s a self confessed lover of English football, which he admitted when he took the Spain national job back in 2016. So there may be an element of truth in it.

Completely agree, same with the AC Milan claims, Lopetegui has experience but burned his bridges a few places too.

BM are more likely to hire someone like DeZerbi who will play a brand of football that can trouble Leverkusen next season.

Am curious to see what Lopetegui can bring, he has a huge rebuild on his hands.
