Irons self destruct!

Once again, we managed to throw away three points after a Moyes master class in parking the bus with the hand brake off. We were 3-1 up and coasting and he decided to take Antonio off and put the hapless Phillips on.
Anyway the game itself. we did have the worst possible start as an errant foot from Coufal handed Newcastle a penalty.

Sadly the VAR Gods still look upon us unfavourably and the spot kick was duly dispatched by Isak.
Suitably stung, the Irons did not panic and on the 20 minute mark after some brilliant play from Lucas Paquetá, who spotted Big Mikey’s run and slotted a sweet ball over the top, where Antonio kept his composure one-on-one and shot past Martin Dúbravka to draw his side level.

Just before half time which took 57 minutes by the way. West Ham capitalised on a brilliant opportunity. After a foul by Fabian Schär on Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paquetá took a quick free-kick, catching Newcastle off guard. He found Jarrod Bowen, who then laid it off perfectly for Kudus, who didn’t hesitate by curling a beautiful shot across goal and into the net.

And it got better!

Picking up the ball deep in his own half, Kudus embarked on one of his mazy runs, shrugging off challenges with impressive strength and skill and with a clear sight of goal, Kudus elected to play provider, sending a perfectly weighted pass through to Jarrod Bowen, leaving him one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Bowen then slotted the ball coolly past Dúbravka

Self destruct button

However, this is West Ham. We always make things difficult for ourselves as the new substitute Kalvin Phillips continued his woeful form by giving away a penalty after yet another VAR check – which Isak put away.
It got worse, Harvey Barnes was put through one-on-one by a lovely pass, and he slotted the ball between Łukasz Fabiański’s legs and into the net.

The Irons just lost the plot and it came as no surprise to see Newcastle take the three points with Harvey Barnes scoring the winner.

Ridiculous !

Well what a surprise! 75 minutes – 3-1 up. Try to park the bus, invite pressure, concede three goals in 15 minutes. Moyes can’t do game management. He thinks he can, but, time after time this season, his idea of game management has resulted in either drawing or losing, when trying to close up the game.

Please, please make him go away!
