Irons squad “the best squad I’ve been involved in”

|

Aaron Cresswell is having the time of his life at West Ham and the new contract offered by Manuel Pellegrinini is absolutely the icing on the cake.

It means that he will have been a part of things at the club for nine years when his new deal finally runs out in 2023 following his arrival  under Sam Allardyce back in 2014 for £3.5 million.

He’s had his highs and lows but the left back’s appreciation of the club has always been obvious and at times has even had the honour of donning the captain’s armband.

There have of course been times when his form – like every other player – has let him down although over the last two or three games he has bounced back from a flat spell to show what his game is all about.

That the new contract should be offered so soon afterwards has suggested to some that there has been a knee jerk reaction but that’s not the way Pellegini words and clearly feels the 29 year old has a lot more to offer.

And speaking at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/october/10-october/cresswell-we-want-build-something-special Cress has spoken of how he feels at remaining part of the best group he reckons he’s seen at the club.

He said: “Extending my contract means everything. “I’ve been here for six years now and my family is down here. My son was born here, and we’ve got another one on the way. My wife is happy down here and I’m happy down here.

“I’ve loved every minute of it. I want to continue that and to extend the stay is fantastic news for me and my family. To extend the stay is a proud moment and add a couple of more years. I’m looking forward to it.”

He added: “Going back to the last year we had at the Boleyn, we had a good squad. But look at this squad, the depth, the players and the signings we are making.

“We’ve got two players for each position so if someone gets injured there is always someone to step up. Certainly, in the time I’ve been here, it’s been the best squad I’ve been involved in.

“We want something special to happen. Come the end of the season, whether we have a good cup run or finish as high as possible in the league, that’s what we’re aiming to do. We want to take each game as it is and try to take maximum points and play good football at the same time.

“This year we’ve shown some brilliant results and played some brilliant football. Long may that continue.”

  • Kenny Irons says:

Cresswell should have gone in the Summer along with Massuaku and we should have signed a quality left back – as most fans were hoping !
Misplaced loyalty yet again………..a few half decent games and he’s Paolo Maldini !
West Ham should move out of the London Stadium and into the Big Top !
Oh, and I think Pellegrini Is a shyster – 10mil a year to do what exactly?? get us knocked out of cup competitions ( thrashed) by tiny little clubs. Mid table mediocrity…..
Take us to the next level – what level is that, exactly ??
    Bloody farce.
