It really is time to follow the Americans, Moyesie

|

David Moyes’ refusal to be open about injury news is becoming a problem and the West Ham manager and football in general needs to start following the example set by American sports.

In the NFL, for example, the teams publish information about whether players have participated in training ahead of a game, and are open about the injury issues they face.

Moyes is the exact opposite of this.

At the weekend, he watched both Mikey Antonio and Aaron Cresswell limp out of the game against Aston Villa and there were some totally understandable concerns from fans over their fitness ahead of a week in which the Hammers are set to play critical games against Sevilla in the Europa League and Spurs in the Premier League.

But when asked for an update, Moyes just outright refused to give an answer, for fear of tipping Sevilla off.

Absolute nonsense.

CandH has had to drag out information and we know that Mikey is 50/50 for the game against the Spanish side, while Cresswell should be fit. It really shouldn’t be like this!

Moyes has given us no information whatsoever in his press conferences and it is entirely understandable  fans want to know about the fitness issues within the squad.

Moyes doesn’t care about that. He is refusing to enlighten us and we cannot understand why.

Sevilla gain no real advantage by knowing that one or two players are injured.

Fans have a right to know; we should follow the American example, and be completely open and honest about our fitness woes.

If every club does it nobody has any advantage or disadvantage imagined or otherwise!

Have to strongly disagree here. Yes us as fans want to know but we have know given right to know, if Moyes wants to keep his cards close to his chest ahead of a big game then I don’t blame him. Antonio and Yarmo couldn’t be more the opposite when it comes to playing so I’d say it does make a difference if Seville know who’s playing. Cresswell again is another key player who makes us tick. There’s a reason Moyes doesn’t want everyone to know and you don’t help the situation by leaking it.

I can see both sides tbh but, as a fan, it makes absolutely no difference to me whether or not I have the latest injury info. When Thursday comes I’ll know what the team is and that’s all that matters isn’t it ? As for Sevilla, I’m sure Julen Lopetegui is aware of our injury issues as I’m certain he will have watched the game. And I’m also pretty sure he’ll have various strategies worked out to cover all scenarios. But imo, no harm keeping him guessing until the last minute.,

I have to respectfully disagree here Dave. Being coy on injuries could be vital to team tactics. If Sevilla knew Cresswell was definitely out, for example, they’d know that it would likely be Johnson in his place and Fredericks at RB. They would then be in a position to shore up their left hand side to counteract Fredericks’ attacking pace. Then there’s showing Johnson onto his weaker side when crossing the ball. He’s pretty good with both feet as it happens, so they would need to make players aware which foot he’s most likely to use. Does he cross in stride from the right wing or does he now need to cut back and cross from the left?
Fans don’t have any divine right to injury information. Fantasy Football reasons aside, it’s meaningless to us really, isn’t it? I know in this day and age where information is everywhere, we expect it, but injury news isn’t really a priority in my opinion. There’s a reason you’ve had to “drag out” the information. The club wants to keep it quiet – for a good reason!

A new low for C&H . Of course Moyes is entitled to keep team news away from the opposition. Why give them any advantage however small.

I wish American sports would follow the lead of British – and not the other way around. Sorry, I also disagree. Club’s fitness is club’s business. I personally enjoy the teeth the press has to pull and the COYI-ness of Moyes (I also apologies for that pun…though, not really).

I do wish, though, that this site would stop with the massive amounts of “Reports” on who we “have an interest’ in, etc.

If Moyes prefers to keep his cards close to his chest then that’s fine by me. He is the best person to know.

Not too long ago our fans were moaning that the club leaked information like a sieve. Now that’s been cured we’re still getting complaints.

why can’t you leave the man to manage the team as he see fit, spitting dummies out over a piece of information that could help the another team is poor, I would rather wait to hear team news when Moyes is ready to give it, and leave the “Americans” to their Soccer. We still have some traditions left at the hammers for gords sake leave em be, and let the man manage, he aint done too bad up till now, has he?. JW

Sorry Dave but the tactics are dictated by availability and that is best kept quiet even though it doesn’t give you an exclusive. More troubling to me is that he may have to include U23 players due to injury, and this just shows up the short-sighted policy of never giving them any sub appearances now it might be desperate. .

  • RuffLeader says:

If he has no obligation to reveal injuries, why should he do it? Nobody else does.
