It’s official: Chicharito leaves for Spain

|

Javier Hernandez has left the club for Sevilla,

The Mexican has left on what the official site declares is an undisclosed fee although, as revealed in CandH, it is for aound €8 million.

In announcing the move, the club say: ‘The Mexican’s transfer ends a two-year stay in east London, during which he scored 17 goals in 63 games in Claret and Blue.

The 31-year-old signed-off his time with the Hammers by scoring on his final appearance in a 1-1 Premier League draw at Brighton & Hove Albion on 17 August.

The Club would like to thank Chicharito for his contribution and wish him all the best in his future career.’

Good luck Chich. Didn’t really work out but never really played to his strengths. Bit surprised it’s 17 goals.. would have guessed about ten off the top of my head.

  • Paul says:

Let’s hope we don’t have our normal injury crisis as now we are two strikers down (I include Antonio in this) Who’s left, Haller, Ateji and Silva. That is unless we play with no striker.

I always find undisclosed fees unnerving. If it’s 8m, why not say it? Unless it’s half of that of course which wouldn’t go down too well.

Hallelujah. Pelle has finally realised how little Mr Hernandez offered to the team. Not sure why it took so long. Chicha was frankly one of the worst strikers we’ve ever had at the club, and I’ve been watching us for over 50 years.
His hold-up play was well below par. His first touch, and his passing, were barely non-league standard. Dribbling terrible (always lost the ball). Never won a header in build-up play. He didn’t even run around much. His one plus? His penalty box awareness was first class, but this goal-hanger’s scoring rate for us was worse than Iain Dowie’s!
And for this we were paying him 7.5 million per year in salary. Good Lord! We are well rid. What a relief that I will no longer have to endure that sinking feeling I got whenever I saw his name on the teamsheet. Happy Day.

Pretty bitter response, 50 years and you cant see beyond the end of your nose.

I agree the deal works for us, but it’s not his fault that we have tried to play him as a lone striker, that is far from his best position, or that he doesn’t suit Pellegrini’s style of play. He chose to take £75k a week with a better chance of playing at Sevilla, instead of sitting on our bench taking £130k a week so fair play to the guy.

He also acted more professionally and patiently than some of the other strikers we had last year, even though he was probably the first who wanted a move.

So for me, as much as I am glad the deal has been done but I don’t feel bitter towards him, I just wish him all the best and hope we use the money wisely in January.

To suggest he’s one of the worst strikers we’ve had is just ridiculous, especially when we’ve recently had the likes of Zaha, Callieri, Perez and Hugill.

We’re all disappointed he didn’t work out, but seriously…

      • Hamptonese says:

Good deal all round. Just wish we’d done this sooner so we’d have enough time to bring in a replacement. It’s not just injuries we need to be wary of with Haller n Ajeti but suspensions and poor form.

  • Gee Unit says:

Wrap Haller in cotton wool now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
