Kouyate/Sakho Finals blow

|

SakhoIn different circumstances we would be pleased to see Chiekhou Kouyate and Diafra Sakho qualify for a major event.

But after helping Senegal to a 1-0 win over Egypt in Cairo it meant that the pair of them are now in line to become involved in the African Nations Cup Finals.

The organisers have now found a country to stage the Finals –  Equatorial Guinea -between 17 January-8 February – after Morocco pulled out because of the Ebola outbreak that has killed thousands.

Kouyate started the match against Egypt and Sakho replaced goalscorer Mame Biram Diouf with around ten minutes remaining as the Lions of Teranga took their place in the event which in our view should never be played.

We revealed on Friday that the club were deeply anxious about the event and that the players were reluctant to travel but it now seems that the die is cast and that the event will indeed go ahead.

Great shame!

Meanwhile Stewart Downing failed to appear in the matych against Slovenia
