Lanzini progress poses big Wilshere question

|

It hadn’t really struck me until I read blogger Allen Cummings’ piece on how we are missing Manu Lanzini but now it has there’s a question worth asking.

Given that Manu is making good progress and is confidently expected to be back by next season – and if reports are to be believed – even earlier, why exactly did we sign Jack Wilshere to a three year deal when one would probably have been more realistic.

Ok, I understand he may not have joined at all had we not offered him something which offered him future security but in the circumstances three years seems excessive.

I don’t want to be unfair to the bloke because I don’t think we have yet seen him in the position where he can do maximum damage which would be in the Lanzini role ( if it’s going to happen at all).

And given that he was bought as a replacement for Manu in the first place the whole scenario does seem a little odd.

It could well be that Jack becomes the player we know he has been in the past and if so we are going to see two great creative places possibly vying for one spot.

But  based on what we have seen so far that three year deal looks a little luxurious in his direction!

Given that both players are injury prone having two players of this calibre makes sense.

Wilshire’s injury record made many of us doubtful about his purchase but I hope he comes good. I don’t watch Arsenal so can’t comment on how he was or wasn’t at his height some years ago.

Sorry when you say two players of this calibre are you suggesting that Wilshere is as good a player as Lanzini. Lets be very clear Wilshere is finished as a PL player and if pellegrini starts him this weekend then imo we will lose again. He has been nothing short of terrible in the first 4 games.

I read somewhere (on here I think) that it was Manny who insisted on a 3 year deal, Sully wanting a 1 year contract.

Whoa Boy! Don’t get your horses running until the posse know what they’re chasin’!?!??!

Wilshire, like 8 others, are still finding their way under Pellegrini, so let’s stop second-guessing until the end of the season……. they we can start the horse whipping.

Mark Noble is in the fast lane to retire, so I believe to have Manu and Jack can be a great duo

Read elsewhere that Wilshere is battling an ankle injury;has not trained for 2 days and is in some doubt for Everton.

Hold on a minute, call off the dogs. I honestly believe most premier league clubs would have taken Wilshire on a free transfer. We got him because he’s from a West Ham family. He brings with him a greater risk of injury as do most players who are grafters and know how to put a shift in but providing he doesn’t get injured I think it’s only a matter of team before Wilshire proves his worth and shuts up the critics who seem to be hoping he fails. I will remind you we are waiting for all the new signings to start clicking, not just Wilshire.

Sorry, having internet problems.Lets try this again. Its not only Wiltshire that isn’t performing,Its our whole squad apart from Fabianski, who quite honestly is saving us from embarrassing score lines. We are simply not scoring goals. We are definitely missing Lanzini, no doubt about it.But, goals win games.Everton will probably be our easiest game this season,we should get a result due to them having 12 players missing through injuries and suspensions.Wilshire is injured ,so let’s see if it really does make a difference how our midfield plays.Everton were crap against Huddersfield,This is 3 points for the taking.
