West Ham United showed the lack of depth in their squad in the latest of their pre-season friendlies at Ibrox Park yesterday. The 0 – 0 scoreline against a Rangers side closer to ‘launch’ by some two weeks might have suggested a resilient defence but it certainly highlighted midfield and attacking shortcomings.
Which, if todays’ sportwitness.co.uk is anything to go by, is only likely to become worse in the coming weeks as a key player has, according to their article, informed the club that he ‘wants out’ this summer.
“West Ham United‘s Taty Castellanos is aiming for a rapid exit this summer, after joining the Championship side from Lazio in January…
Taty Castellanos wants a summer exit. In fact, he has ‘officially informed’ Nuno Espírito Santo’s side and his priority is to move to La Liga…What’s certain is that Castellanos wants to leave and the transfer formula has to be clarified.”
Which, if true, will be something of a disaster for Nuno and for the Hammers’ board who are hoping to keep key players in situ. Claret and Hugh covered Castellanos’ finances last week and whilst sides in La Liga – such as Sevilla, around whom most of this report is centred, may be hoping the Argentine striker decides to agitate for a move away.

There’s an added paragraph in the report which offers a clue that this might not all be coming from Taty himself:
“Vamos Mi Sevilla FC claims the Hammers can’t recover most of the fee invested to sign him. Therefore, a loan move is ‘gaining traction’.
This may not be West Ham’s stance. It looks like the outlet are trying to push what Sevilla want because of their financial limitations.”
Castellanos is contracted to West Ham until 2030 and there’s every sign that the club expect him to honour his agreement. An interesting few weeks lie ahead.
ha ha , got bells it’s on the other one pull , help me people I’m a little mixed up , I’ve read the reporting mentioned in the above article along with a few others , which lead us into trying to make us believe that the West Ham management would accept Taty leaving us on a loan deal where we would get no money to immediately replace him simply because he doesn’t fancy playing in the championship and another club fancies him playing for them ! and this club is sevilla who finished 13th in la liga last season ! ! presumably they’d want us to cover some of he’s wages as well ! ! ! think this is for folk who like I should with their coco x
If they pay the reported £25–30 million we’re asking, then I don’t really see the issue.
He signed for a relegation-threatened club, apparently without a release clause. If that’s the case, then I’m afraid that’s on him, not the club. He either plays well enough to make our valuation undeniable, or he stays where he is until someone is prepared to meet it.
This is also exactly why we can’t afford to let Füllkrug make a mockery of how we do business. If a player can agitate for a move and force the club’s hand, it creates a blueprint for everyone else to follow. That weakens our negotiating position in every future transfer.
This is beginning to resemble a terribly familiar window now Martin,if this latest news is true we are looking at our only striker capable of scoring a goal leaving and we will be left with only Bambi on ice up there. We were shown the huge and glaringly obvious deficiencies in the starting 11 (and the squad depth) in the game yesterday, and if we then see taty leave, a player who would guarantee goals then things are extremely concerning for our future. We have a glorious new and shiny recruitment team yet we see JWP playing at left wing, a midfield that offers the square root of nothing in terms of progression and attacking flair and a second striker who looks as though he’s running in treacle. The failure to address any of these issues already smacks of a malaise at the heart of the club which needs to come to an end immediately. As soon as they offered Bowen his deal I knew other key players would not be happy at not being offered similar deals! Bowen on £600k monthly & 29 years of age & loyal was going nowhere! They should have just held their nerve with Bowen and stated ‘no further players are leaving, now the word is ‘say you dont want to play in the championship’ and soft touch WH will help let you leave.
One would hope that Mendes, who was involved in the original move, will be working to explain to other’s like the player’s agent and interested teams why low priced deals to suit the player are unlikely. After all Mendes has no desire to be seen as an agent who brings players to the club who want to quickly move on at a reduced price.
Not a huge fan, but this won’t happen. Doubt there is any European club that potentially would be interested who could afford either the fee or wages. This is just paper talk because Sevilla can’t afford the fee and no doubt would be after subsidised wages. West Ham should tell them to do one.
Not unexpected. It may be the agent. But in any case few clubs he’d want to go to could afford him. The new board has shown its stance on sales.
