Leverkusen hangover? I’ll drink to that

|

Bayer Leverkusen are celebrating their Bundesliga title and quite rightly so. Their victory is a true David and Goliath tale against moneybags Bayern Munich who seem to win the German title every season.

Manager Xabi Alonso has been a revelation as manager and he was seen letting his hair down in the Leverkusen dressing room following their whopping 5-0 win against Werder Bremen.

To be precisely accurate, Alonso was actually seen getting his hair wet rather than letting it down. As the Bayer manager enjoyed celebratory beer his triumphant players pranked him by pouring a rather large glass of lager over his head.

Alonso’s reaction was priceless as he was handed a giant stein of the good stuff and started drinking from that instead.

A stella performance from Alonso & Leverkusen this season

Now I may be clutching at straws here, but I’m rather hoping the Leverkusen squad go on a bit of a bender. West Ham might stand half a chance against a team who’ve been drinking for fours days . . . but I wouldn’t put money on it.

So drink up lads, enjoy your victory, and I’d get your beer whilst in Germany because the price of a pint at The London Stadium will make your eyes water.

Congratulations to them. Well deserved. SO much to like about what they are doing. A mantel on which I hope we’ll one day sit. Long after the club has rid itself of its ageing shackles and regained a sense of adventure.
