Much as they’d like to convince Chelsea’s Axel Disasi to drop down to the Championship for a season, West Ham’s recruitment team have to face realities of life in the second tier. After such a successful loan spell in east London, the French centre back will not be short of admirers and likely have a string of opportunities put to him this summer. Most will not involve a 50% pay cut.

So What Ham need a plan ‘B’ to bring in a new defender ready to hit the ground running in the Championship. Yesterday’s outing for the old Mavropanos – Kilman partnership looked anything other than rock solid and it is one of three key areas in which the Hammers need to add depth this summer.
Much sought-after centre-back Dylan Lawlor
Nine months ago Liverpool were linked with making a move for ‘immense’ defender Dylan Lawlor, and yesterday those same reports circulated concerning West Ham and a possible bid for the 20 year- old talented centre back.

Exactly the profile Nuno has requested – young and able to transition to Premier League football next season – Lawlor won’t come cheap,Cardiff reportedly plucking £20 million out of the ether as his value to their side.
West Ham have just three weeks to make their move ahead of the season-opening Carling Cup fixture and at the moment they are short of a winger, playmaker and central defender. Tick tick.
Looks like Disarsi has reached a point of being ruled out, shame.
With Nuno pushing Bissaka out this guy could almost be a direct replacement with his accolades.
£20m for Bissaka and £20m for Lawlor could be a good deal.
Disarsi fee talk was £25m if he would play championship for a year (hopefully).
Not sure which would be better option although Mavro partnership would probably sway it.
Experience or youth?
Disasi, if he joined, would not be subject to a 50% pay cut as his would be a new contract negotiated with West Ham and not an existing deal to be adapted for the Championship
It has been encouraging to hear that Bowen travelled to Prague and was given the assurances he needed that the “new” ownership plan on turning a clown show into a Broadway masterpiece.
I’m hopeful his signing a new contract sends the message that this is a club on the up.
No longer a selling club.
No longer a stepping stone to “bigger” clubs (as if there is anything more massive).
No longer a retirement home to the EPL’s old warhorses hoping they can stave off the inevitable march of aging for one last payday.
A line in the sand has been drawn and Kretinsky doesn’t seem a man accepting of failure or mediocrity.
Let’s hope this transfers to the running of the club, to success on the field, and West Ham United becoming a club where players want to come to.
