London Stadium capacity could reduce if safety concerns are not addressed

|

West Ham has shared a new colour coding ticketing plan for next season with the London Stadium Safety Advisory Group chaired by Newham at the beginning of April.

The Hammers have asked that if the colour in the stadium could match the tickets for that quadrant, saying it would be extremely useful. Order of new season cards were placed at end of April and will be issued in July.  The new colour-coded season tickets will help stewards stop migration around the stadium. The safety group discussed potential challenges faced with the new colour coding wanted to ensure that stewards will be clearly briefed.

West Ham also told the Safety group that the front three rows of block 217 have now been permanently removed from sale to season ticket holders and will continue to be screened off due to persistent standing and safety fears.

Stadium owners E20 have announced that they are going through an upgrade on the network through the summer which will address the CCTV blind spots as well as a general upgrade to CCTV system. Panameras on the home and away seg line have full coverage with funding approval to buy more cameras to cover all or most of the lower bowl and the plan is to get 100% coverage of lower bowl if West Ham provides match funding.

The use of Body cams worn by stewards will be increased from 44 to 100 units next season and potentially more if West Ham match fund.

This was a requirement on the application for a capacity increase to 60,000. Newham added that if concerns were not mitigated it could impact on future capacity which could include decreasing the capacity of the London Stadium.
