London Stadium gets 5G network

|

Mobile network operator EE has equipped the London Stadium with high-density 5G coverage despite no supporters being present.

The news was confirmed by Stadium owners in the Chief Executives report to the LLDC in October.

5G is around 10 times faster than 4G. It’s designed to work at average speeds of 150-200Mbps, and peak speeds can reach above 1Gbps.

Last year the London Stadium delivered the fastest free stadium Wi-Fi in the UK  following a tie-up with O2 Business and Cisco.

The London Stadium Wi-Fi network delivers high-speed internet to every seat allowing users on any network to remain connected throughout every match day.

As part of a major improvement project, London Stadium’s original fibre backbone infrastructure from London 2012 was enhanced with new high-speed data cabling. Designed, installed and tested by O2 Business, the new Wi-Fi access points use similar technology to that in use at The O2 Arena, Twickenham Stadium and the Coca-Cola London Eye.
