London Stadium mask enforcement issue

|

London Stadium owners have admitted that the wearing of masks was sporadic at the West Ham v Southampton game with enforcement difficult.

Reports submitted to the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC)  board last week revealed the Committee considered a report on health and safety matters relating to the
Stadium including an update on the return of spectators at the West Ham match against Southampton on 23 May 2021.

Under guidance issued by the Premier League, 10,000 spectators were allowed to attend the match and 9,006  actually attended. Mask wearing was sporadic and enforcement was difficult the report said. There were no virus outbreaks reported that were associated with the West Ham match.

Under the health and safety section the report concedes Social distancing control has been a challenge during this period for one large event with fans at the London Stadium.

West Ham are hoping to have 60,000 back for the Betway Cup game on 7th August in less than two weeks time but this will be subject to final sign off by the London Stadium Safety Advisory Group.

Always someone else’s fault. They just had to spoil it for everyone – and with big smiles on their faces.
