Magical double moment on the way for Fornals

Pablo Fornals celebrates his goal at AZ Alkmaar

West Ham’s Pablo Fornals more than played his part in last night’s massive win in Holland.

And afterwards he explained just how thrilled he was to be part of a West Ham team that is hitting the heights – that number again, 47 years!

Pablo hasn’t always been the main main since David Moyes has been in charge but last might he could hardly have made his point more clearly

A key figure in West Ham United’s run to the UEFA Europa League semi-final last season, the Spain midfielder played his part this term to go one step further this term.

The second-half substitute, West Ham’s joint all-time European appearance holder with 25 matches under his belt, scored the winner on the night against AZ Alkmaar – a goal now etched in Hammers history.

His strike alongside a 2-1 win in London last week sent the Club to its first European final in nearly 50 years.

June is set to be a busy month for Fornals, then. The No8’s wedding is booked for only a few days after the final too!

He spoke to West Ham TV about his delight to reach the final, it being a massive moment, and his relief when the ball nestled in the bottom corner.

He said: “For this Club, for all these players, for all the fanbase, we obviously know that it was not the best season for us. But we could finish it so unbelievably in a few weeks. We could make this Club so proud! The team who is playing regularly is doing great, but the lads who, like me, are training every day to get a spot are doing their job as well.

We are training hard and working hard as professionals for nights like thisIt’s what we have to do because football is not just eleven against eleven. It can happen in a match like this than you can have a chance to play, like a few of the lads did tonight, and obviously I’m really happy for all of them. It’s massive.

I am really pleased to be at this Club at this moment and in its big history. And I am really happy to write our names in another chapter. We work really hard, but we want to win  in Prague. A few days after the final will be my wedding too but I have to now make that day even better. It would be unbelievable if I can do both well.

Fantastic goal from one of my favourite players. An absolute gentleman who should be so proud of the way he’s handled himself on and off the pitch this season. Most would agree that he’s been treated appallingly by Moyes and I can’t believe he’ll stay on for another season of bench warming if the dinosaur remains. Thanks Pablo, I hope you get on the pitch in the final as well.

100% agree with Dutch Courage, a class act..Most true west ham fans would prefer Fornals to stay next season ahead of Moyes because players like Fornals will thrive under a totally different footballing philosophy, not the Moyes one.
