Maguire “insulted” by Hammers offer

Harry Maguire is said to feel “insulted” by our supposed low £20m offer, Manchester United insiders have told Claret&H.

Irons boss David Moyes is desperate to sign the Old Trafford and England defender, despite his huge drop off in form in the last two seasons.
It’s understood, however, United are holding out for closer to £35m, and believe more clubs will come forward towards the end of the window.
It remains to be seen if Irons will offer more for a player who earns £200,000-per-week at Old Trafford and is no longer wanted by boss Erik ten Hag.
Maguire is now 30 and has few takers, but the former Red Devils skipper is still said to feel he is worth more than the valuation we have placed on him.
A source inside United’s Carrington training base told us: “It’s not just United who think West Ham’s current offer is low-ball, Harry sees other players moving for far bigger sums, without half his experience and pedigree.
“He knows United want him out and may be bluffing over his price, but even Harry thinks he is worth more than £20m – especially to someone like David Moyes who needs a centre-half in quickly and knows he is road-tested in the Premier League.”
Maguire would earn almost £20m in wages if he sees out the remainder of his contract and United are mindful they may have to hand over a decent proportion of any transfer fee they receive to help him on his way.

This is such a disappointing, yet obvious ‘Moyes’ transfer. Why can’t we set our minimum bar at an Aguerd or Zouma level and build, rather than always scraping the barrel?

Having said that, if we had that policy, we’d never have bought Ballon Dawson!! 🙂

Point holds though – Moyes knows he has a year left. He wants to protect his legacy with proven players, because he has a negative approach and no aspiration. Just desperation. He doesn’t care about building for the future in the way that Steidten and Nobes do, so won’t go for those types of players.

The fact that Sullivan thinks that’s acceptable is incredible, and will lose all the credit we earned from the ECL win. Shameful lack of foreward planning.

Well done Maguire, just stay where you are at 5th choice on £200,000 a week!
Why chase a reluctant player who clearly thinks he has nothing to prove despite lousy performances in Premier league.

  • jumbojones says:

I think it was one of the greats, Shankly or Busby who said “never sign a player who thinks they are doing you a favour”.

    Moyes will never learn.

What is this obsession with yesterday man Maguire, it has to be Moyes, he is not worth even £20 Million, this has been the toughest close season for loyal fans, we seem to going down the drain as a club!

  • sjbzathrus says:

This is a Jesse Lingard thing all over again, Moyes fixates on a player and ignores the fact we are in a desperate situation in regards to signing new players. Taking into account the cost, his wages and ego then despite being an England international Maguire would not be a great signing but the clock ticks on and it is looking very likely we open the season with the same team as last year minus Declan.

This guy is a deluded clown. He wouldn’t even start for us as if we would pay over £20m. Still living off one good season at Leicester

  • hammerpete6 says:

It’s a tragic love affair, where Moyes loves Maguire who also loves himself. Disgusting self serving move by Moyes which will cost the club a minimum 60 mill in fees and wages with no return for a bloke who believes he is above West Ham. Having heard his utterings about us I honestly could not go to the LS and support this bloke.
