Moyes’ Antonio update

|

David Moyes has confirmed that Mikey Antonio is double vaccinated against COVID-19 and is not showing any symptoms of the virus, despite testing positive.

The striker missed the EFL Cup clash with Spurs on Wednesday as the Irons lost 2-1 in north London.

Goals from Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura proved decisive, despite Jarrod Bowen’s equaliser, with the Hammers falling out of the competition as a result.

Antonio tested positive for COVID in the build-up to the game but it is now uncertain as to whether he will return for the clash with Southampton on Boxing Day.

Moyes has confirmed that Antonio is asymptomatic but he does not know when he will be back ahead of the encounter with the Saints after Christmas.

Speaking after the defeat to Spurs, the boss said, as per Football.London: “The answer is I don’t know. He has no symptoms and I have to say that he is double vaccinated. For all those things hopefully we might have him back, yes.”

Antonio was undoubtedly missed against Tottenham, with his strength and direct running conspicuous by their absence against Antonio Conte’s side.
