Moyes bigs up his impressive defender

|

David Moyes is not a manager who names individuals for special praise as a rule.

So when he does we tend to sit up and take notice – as today when Aaron Cresswell has become the subject of his attentions.

Cress has been getting plenty of rave reviews of late but when David Moyes joins the chorus of approval the left-back can be very pleased with his recent efforts.

His game has improved immensely as a result of Moyes going five at the back and the player has spoken about that not being as straightforward as it sounds.

Indeed he claimed that it was quite complicated and the methodology of his playing often depended on the opposition the Hammers were involved against.

It’s well known that he has been tipped as an England possible and the manager has even been moved to give his own opinion of that as the team head into the next game against Aston Villa.

Speaking at his pre-match presser, Moyes said: “Aaron Cresswell has been excellent for us. On both occasions I’ve been here he’s played very well.

He’s getting to the age of maturity where he’s understanding the game better and his reading of it, and he’s playing very well.

Because he can play a couple of roles and he’s left-sided, it wouldn’t be a surprise to me if Gareth Southgate called him up for England in the future.

If he keeps up the form he’s in, and continues playing as well as he does, he’ll certainly be getting watched – I have no doubt about that.
